As far as the windy genny and panels they are just toys to have fun with and experiment. They also serve as insurance like any of our preps. I will not be without at least alittle electricity from one souce or another. Here is the fan I installed. Sorry I never mentioned it. I put it in about 9 months ago. I got it from lowes for $34. Its thermostat controlled and moves 1300+ cfm. You do not want to put a hole in the top of the container for a fan. They have good roofs that are solid. Put the vents in the side. There are flat noncorrigated areas on most containers near the ends.

As this project winds down I tought I would introduce my next big thing in shipping container mania. My next HOUSE! I just purchased this on ebay. I have always loved these birchwood beauties and now I will have one. It will be where I live when I build my replacement house in the location where my manufactured home sets now. Small, efficient, secure housing is the future of the American home.

+1 Beyond awesome. He's like the frickin' Professor from Gilligan's Island. I helped build a 30w x 60l x 14h' Quonset hut for my grandpa. A couple of these would have been hell of a lot easier... and about the same price. I'm glad to see you have a way to raise and lower that wind generator. Grandpa lost his in a storm last year.  I'm sure you could figure out a pulley/winch system and raise/lower that by hand.

incredible You have put a lot of sweat in to this project, which is apparent by your pictures. I have to say that is the most impressive "garage" I have ever seen. I would eventually like to have something like this my self.

may I suggest: Vertical Axis Wind Turbines (VAWT)
-operates at a broader range of speeds (esp on the low end) -operates even in variable wind directions -are quieter -are bird safe, if that concerns you |

| Great work on the wind generator. Do you have anything like rubber bushings between the post and the roof. This could help insulate that vibration out. Thoughts? |
