I'm looking at two scopes. Exact specs except one has parallax adjustment and the other does not, but the one with PA is almost $500 more. Is PA helpful on a 3-12X if shots are kept under 300 yards? |

No, it is not a feature I see valuable in a hunting scope. Most riflescopes have the parallax set to 150 yards. At 300 the absolute MOST you could make parallax move your groups is 3/4". That is if you are intentionally moving your head to the maximum the scope allows you to see through. If you have any semblance of stock fit, it's not going to move any amount you can measure outside of normal variation from wind and other factors. Even if you move out to 400 yards with a 40mm objective, the most you can make it move is just over 1 1/4", still barely an issue, and again if stock fit is even remotely close, you won't see anywhere near that much effect in the real world. |

Man has been killing deer for a long time at ranges from 1 yard to 300 yards for years w/o a PA adjustment. PA's are in the "nice to have category", especially when shooting beyond 300 yards, but for hunting at 300 and under, PA isn't a must have. For the record, I've killed deer and hogs at 300 and under, never messed with the PA despite my scope having one. |
| My primary concern is dialing in the image for optimal sharpness at any range and magnification combination either deer hunting or target shooting. |

| It's not an issue for scopes that aren't junk. Even the cheap Leupold VX-Freedom, if there is any clarity difference between 25 and 500 yards, I can't see it. It's a very sharp image through the whole range. The only scope I have that is touchy about clarity is an SWFA fixed 10X with parallax adjustment. That scope just kind of sucks, I wouldn't recommend them. |
| I ordered the S&B Polar T96 3-12X54 w/o the PA. Such a ridiculous sale price I could not pass it up after roughly 10 years of wanting a T96 |
