It all happened so fast I didn't turn on the recording. My son and I were going to try out an open area next to a growing wheat field. The wheat was already about 2-3 ft high. We walked in and set up with the wheat to our right and the open area to our left. I had just set my gun up and hadn't even put out the call yet. We suddenly hear wheat rustling about 15 yards out in the field and hear a couple bark\growls. I look out in the field with my thermal, and see the tops of the wheat stalks moving, and see a coyote head pop up out of it a couple times then go back down. I sat there watching the top of the wheat move, as it came closer to us. It stopped out in the field about 5-7 yards away and sat there for about 20 seconds. My son was holding the call up ready to beat it if it came out after us. I just had the gun pointed into the wheat with the safety off, ready to shoot if I saw it start moving our way again. It reminded me of that scene from Jurassic world where the raptors are converging upon the people in the tall grass. You can see their trails in the grass converging upon the group. It suddenly turned, barked, and jumped in the air about 5 feet heading away from us. On it's second jump, I shot and it did a flip back into the wheat landing on its back. My son was freaking out. He of course couldn't see anything in the dark and didn't know what had just happened. He thought it was coming towards us. I was kind of bummed when I saw the scope wasn't recording.
