Hey guys, we'll be staying on N Captiva next week and will be bringing my flats boat. Other than the passes, does anyone wanna point me to good inshore fishing spots? We'll be fishing primarily in the morning hours if that matters. Probably do some drunken beach fishing in the evenings.

Our family has been going to the Sanibel/Captiva area for about 35 years now. Great fishing, great food - make sure to hit the Lazy Flamingo on Bokeelia! The one at Blind Pass got wiped out in the storm... Fishing-wise we have our best luck at Redfish Pass and Captiva Pass. We use live pinfish & sardines along the rocks during a tide change when the water’s moving in or out of the pass. You just drift the boat along the structure bumping the motor occasionally to keep your distance stable(@25-30ft away). We catch the bait in the shallow grass flats south of Cabbage Key & Useppa Island using a cast net or mini poles baited with little pieces of squid. Use bulk dry cat food as chum to bring in the baitfish - it works !!! One bit of warning - Over the last few years the dolphin and sharks have gotten a lot smarter…(read: intolerable!!!).. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve reeled in just the front half of a keeper snook or redfish.  Have fun and good luck with the fishing !!! . |

We caught some fish: Attached File Attached File Only 2 keeper trout all week, but we caught a bunch of other stuff. We had 2 days we didn't take the boat out, one due to wind, the second due to hangovers.  We had our best luck in redfish pass and the flat inshore from it, we never made it to the fish houses that were recommended although we fished the one right outside of safety harbor. |
