The 223 you already own will work absolutely fine.

243 or 6.5 will be perfect for deer and hogs. A 223 could do the job as well but the former two would be preferable.

I live and hunt in FL. Shot hogs with .223 and 6.8spc. I can rell you first hand 6.8 anchors them. Have yet to shoot a deer with it, but hope to this year.

If I was going to own just one hunting rifle, I'd buy a 7mm Rem Mag.   Its ability to shoot flat put it ahead of the -06 & .308 and it will kill anything short of a grizzly all day long. Plus it has that magical "you can buy ammo for it anywhere" capability.

It will kill grizzlies too and so will a lot of smaller calibers.

I tried 6.5G but didn’t see the added expense to be enough of an advantage to what I already had. So I sold it.


My two main hunting calibers are

.223/5.56
62gr bonded SP- Federal fusion/Speer GD

308
In various loads.


That pretty much covers me for almost everything in North America.
