 I picked up a weatherby model 307 alpine ct chambered in 300 prc. I am looking forward to getting it to the range soon. |

Nice looking rifle! I have no experience with the Weatherby 307, but the Peak 44 stocks are excellent. My Defiance .308 has a Blacktooth on it and it's my favorite stock, though the LOP could be a little longer. Hope it works well for you. I can't remember if you've been to Africa before and I can't make out exactly what scope you have on the rifle, but if you're going to Limpopo the scope might be a little much. When I was there a few months ago I used the PH's .308 with a 3.5-10 Leupold on it. I set it to 4 and never touched it again. At the ranges you'll generally shoot there you probably won't need more. The .300 PRC should do a great job as long as you choose a relatively tough bullet. I used whatever red-tipped Hornady load the PH provided and the only exit I had was on an impala. I felt a little under-gunned on the blue wildebeest and waterbuck but it did the job. |

Fantastic optic but it is a placeholder while I make my mind up on what will be on it permanently. Put the first shots through it yesterday, group was under an inch after I got it dialed in despite cleaning between shots. Average speed with Hornady outfitter 190 grain copper solid was 2968 (faster than I expected out of a 22” pipe). I will post some more updates as I use it, no wester or Oconus hunts this year but I will likely use it on some whitetail and sika just to get comfortable with it. |

Sounds like it's going to shoot very well and I would think that load would be more than up to the task on larger plains game. I suspect the .308 load I was using was an SST. I originally planned to take my .300WM and use 200gr Terminal Ascents this year, but the trip schedule pushed me into using the PH's rifle. I tend to use placeholder scopes initially too. In my case it's usually a 2.5-10 Viper HS. It's good enough to test the rifle, fits on everything and will survive some pretty stout recoil, but it's never quite what I want long-term. Hope your new rifle continues to work well. |
