Looking to get a daypack. Around 25 liters, +/- a few. Want something with a hip belt and hip pockets. Looking at the Osprey Talon 22 or 26. Gregory makes some nice ones around that size but I want earth tones. Mystery Ranch Coulee 20 or 30 seems nice but the strap system seems bulky and I'm not sure about that tri-zipper setup. This will be for hiking, travel and get-home-bag. What cha got? |
I have a Stratos 24 that I like for the most part, but it’s from before everyone got into “size inclusivity.” I’m not a small guy and the hip belt is long enough but not by much. The front pocket isn’t mesh, but rather a flat pocket with a zipper up the middle so it’s not very useful for anything not somewhat flat. The external pockets all impinge on the main compartment if you fill them first, and if you fill the main compartment first the external pockets barely hold anything. If you use a water bladder it attaches externally, between the back of the pack and the mesh trampoline, so it’ll get warm very fast from your back and also limit ventilation. It’s listed as one size fits all, with a somewhat adjustable torso length, but it’s barely adequate for my 21” torso. It’s not uncomfortable, it rides high but I don’t load it down so the weight being more on my lower back than my hips isn’t a problem. It was plenty comfortable here.  But if I was in the market for another pack in that size range I’d probably go with an Osprey Manta 24, based on my experience with my Manta 36 AG. |
