I gave up waiting for the 750. I have been a Kenwood user for almost 15 years. But summer is knocking and I need a new radio for the overlanding rig. Yaesu won. Picked up a FTM-510DRASP from DX yesterday. Hoping the Bluetooth module will pass GPS data from a Garmin puck. My preferred mounting position in the truck is not gonna provide the best line of sight for the built in antenna, and APRS beaconing is a big reason for buying the radio. Going from my old 710 to this is quite enlightening. This thing feels state of the art by comparison. Just wish it had a USB-C data port. Sorry Kenwood. It looks like a cool radio, but I can’t wait any longer and the rumored price is WAY more than I want to spend. |

I highly doubt you will need an external GPS for the 510. I have an FTM-400XDR and an FTM-310DR and both of them got GPS lock inside my house when I was tinkering with them on the bench. I cannot image a vehicle installation that wouldn't get a lock. |

Looks like an awesome radio. Kenwood has always been known for quality radios - I'm still using a TS-820s and a TS-830s I've owned forever. Oldies but they are easy to work on and I've had to do some repairs and tweaks to both of them over the years. |

I have 2ea of those, 3 R-820s, a 530SP (all modded), 2ea TS-440S and R-5000, 2ea TS-180S, 1ea TS-130S, 130V and TS-660. 1ea TS-930S and 940S round things out. One of the 830s and the 530SP are in the project queue, as are the 440s, R-5000s and the 180s along with the 940. Upgrades, mods and general freshening up. All my Kenwoods get rotated in and out of my lineup and are used frequently. |
