Have a buddy down the road that has been having coyotes around his house recently harassing his dogs. He was worried they were going to kill one of smaller dogs. He called me and wanted me to try and get rid of a few. I set up last night under the nearly full moon overlooking a field and hill with my back against some woods. I called and immediately hear 3 different groups respond from different directions. A couple minutes later, one comes running over the hill into the field and stops at about 200 yards. I drop her and keep calling. I kept hearing some in the direction the first one came from, but nothing came in. I scanned back to my right, and notice one that must have come out of the woods behind me. He was walking about 300 yards out. I tried to stop him, but he kept moving. I put the crosshairs on his nose and he dropped at the shot. When I got up to him, I couldn't believe what the 95 gr. Vmax did to him. He had a huge gash on his neck, and his eyes wer both bulging. His skull felt like it was about in 50 pieces. It was one of the bigger coyotes I had gotten this year. He was at least 45-50 lbs. I love the thump on the 2nd one. | Bullets sometimes do funny things. Same bullets, same loads, same rifle, same distance and two different effects on the skin/meat/bone. Seen it on groundhogs and deer. |
