I shot this girl at 527 yards with an 18" AR10 using a handloaded 195 grain Sierra Tipped Matchking. She was bedded down on an old logging flat with half a dozen other doe. One of the heaviest doe I have killed in several years. I watched them for about 15 minutes before she stood up to stretch. She dropped in her tracks and then slid down the hill a few yards. The exit hole is the size of a silver dollar, fantastic performance. N-550 Powder with magnum rifle primer Optic is a Sig Tango4 4-16×44 I am officially tagged out for the season. Attached File |

Nice shooting man, I practice for 4-500 yards just in case. I usually smoke em much closer in the timber. Love hunting with mine. Next year will be a lil easier, got a SFAR. Large frame and heavy. Attached File |

| That is simply an amazing distance. I shot mine at 25 to 30 yards this year with a muzzleloader. I will go back and take my rangefinder to get an exact measurement. It may not have even been that far! |

| Thats a hell of a poke in the field. I'm sure you put your time in working up the load and dope on the gun. Kudos to you. I think thats a far too long of a shot for me. The longest shot I have ever taken on a whitetail was 250ish yards in a cut sorghum field, and was the result of dumb luck. I had shot a doe out of my treestand at 7am and pushed all day for my friend. I was exhausted and with a slight drizzle in late afternoon I wasn't going to sit in my stand so I was sitting in my friends truck in the sorghum field, napping and listening to the radio. When I finally looked up there were 6 does in the middle of the field. I got out of the truck and picked out the biggest doe and was about to shoot when I heard an "unk, unk, unk...grrr" and a doe stepped out of the thicket with a buck on her tail, head at her ass grunting every time a front hoof hit the ground. I mean every step and all I saw was horns. I quickly estimated range at 150 or so, held a tad high and let the 150 gr ballistic tip fly out of my M-77 30-06. Saw the buck flinch and retreat into the thicket. Waited 15 minutes (rain was washing blood off vegetation and I thought it was a good hit from the reaction. Only found 6 specs of blood and when I paced the distance to the trail it ran it added up to 250+ yards. I normally NEVER get a shot over 100 yds in the NE woods I hunt and was disappointed to pace off that far. Retreated back to the truck and got my friend with only 10 minutes of daylight left and went into the woods on the track. That buck was 15 yards on the trail DRT. Perfect shot into the boiler room but that was a very long shot for me. |
