This is my BOV . What is yours? My truck is a pre-DEF 2008 Ram 6.7 Cummins Off Road package with a 6 speed manual transmission. It has a mere 27,000 miles on it. It's not a cowboy Cadillac. It's a truck's truck. I bought it to do truck things like towing and hauling not commuting or daily runs. It's lifted from the factory and the suspension is very stiff. The highway range unloaded is approximately 500 miles and yes, it cost a fortune to fill the tank from empty. Despite it's low miles, it would blow your mind where all it's been from running with the wild horses in Oklahoma to facing blizzards on the Great Lakes. Use to the limited space of boats for 30 years and a desire to tow more than just a camper, we went with a Palomino truck camper. We chose a popup for two reasons. We wanted to limit how often we run the AC and clearance is a big deal on trails and through the older Eastern US underpasses and tunnels. It has all the comforts of home including instant hot water, head, and a shower. The wife and I really don't like campgrounds and this thing was designed specifically for boondocking. Two people no conservation at all, the limiting factor, the black water tank, lasts a good week. We live in the mountains surrounded by national forest so there's no shortage of boondocking spots from in the mountains right on a trout stream to on the banks of a lake. It also solves a problem for us which is traveling with three Yorkies.

None of "the usual" reasons I'd have to bug out - hurricane, wildfire, earthquake, etc. The worst Mother Nature does around here is throw white fluffy stuff at us. Hell, we're even over a mile from the nearest railroad tracks. So highly unlikely that we'd have to get out and live in the vehicle for days/weeks. That being said, I have the ultimate Swiss Army Knife vehicle... 4wd - can and have driven in 20" of unplowed snow 550+ mile range when not towing Can seat 7 + still have plenty of cargo room Fits 4x8 sheets, inside, without removing seats 2000+ lb payload Can tow 9000 lbs And nicely optioned, too - quad heated leather seats, sunroof, Bose, nav, remote start, power/remote tailgate  |

We combined your vehicles, but with no campers. I have a 19 Ram 1500 Crew Cab Laramie. Its my BIV. Meaning it is what I drive when SHTF to get to the scene (typically snow, thunderstorms, and tornadoes). Its me solo on those trips, and it has been flawless, comfortable as hell, and everything I could ask for. We have a 23 Suburban Z71 for our main hauler/gotta GTFO. 3 young kids and a lab, so it works well for us. Roof racks and rear hitch hauler (and of course a trailer) significantly increase cargo while all seats are occupied. Our main issue here is lake effect as well, and trying to outrun that is not the optimal strategy. I would guess that our main reason to bug out would be civil unrest, and therefore I want as big and nimble as can be practically had. |

09 Suburban 2500 4x4. seats 7 with ALL the good stuff. 6.0L v8. Leather. Black and black. Dark tinted windows. Ex-DSS (Diplomatic Security Services) vehicle. USED to have no-flat tires. USED to have full armor. Unsure if it still has bulletproof glass or not. STILL has the mounting brackets in the rear used for a .50 cal. machine gun.  . Lights are still there but wires cut and rendered unusable. This is the one that is used to transport diplomats, politicians, etc. Now used for antiques, yard and garden supplies, groceries and pull the occasional u-haul. I’m dumb. I don’t remember how to post a pic. |
