I did that "empty chamber - click" thing a couple of weekends ago myself.

I recovered and fortunately his curiosity brought him back for a kill shot.

That triple was sweet!!

I have a few new guns I have been using and playing with this year. Two of them have finicky magazine wells. If I am in a hurry and slap it in but don't hear the click, the magazine isn't seated all the way and when I feed in a round, it lowers itself slightly, and I get an empty chamber as a result. It is user error, and after all the coyotes I have killed it shouldn't happen but it does.
