Like the title says, I'm looking for reviews/suggestions on a good 6-8 person tent.  I will be taking multiple trips to Cape Lookout NC each year.  This is very primitive beach camping on sand.  Cape Outlook can be very windy and there can be crazy storms there from time to time.  Looking for a large tent that can handle wind and be waterproof.  Any and all experiences and reviews are appreciated.

For context, I had a Cabela's Alaskan Guide Tent 8 for many years that served me well but it has just gotten old and isn't serviceable any longer.  I was going to buy a new one but the recent reviews tell me that the Bass Pro take over of Cabelas has shit on the quality of Cabela's products.

Thanks in advance!

Look at the offerings of Nemo Equipment and Big Agnes.

Have camping stuff from both and I've been very impressed with the quality.

How much do you want to spend?
Do you need a floor?

Seek outside
Nortent
Pomoly-makes some decent tents
Three ridges gear has some.

The guide tents are a bit cheaper made but still stand up okay.
Bunch of them here in SW AK.

I'd like to keep this under $600 if possible.  Yes, I'd like to have a floor in the tent.  Waterproof and being able to stand up to wind are important also.  T

That price point is tough.

Look at pomoly and three ridges gear.

Well, I was going to recommend the cabelas AK guide tent but....

Cape Lookout will destroy a tent in no time. Non stop winds break fiberglass poles, so look for aluminum poles and good sand anchors.

MY Cabelas AK guide tent has survived a couple of trips there but it is showing its age.  Back when I bought it years ago, I thought it was the best tent on the market for the money.  Wish I had bought two and stored one.

Could you tell us more about your use case, please?

A 6-8 person tent is fucking heavy (and expensive, if it is worth a shit). Are you car camping or something?

There are many 3-4 season, 2-3 person tents that would work fine on a beach or anywhere, and would break down into smaller sections (e.g., body, fly, poles, ground sheet), that would be easier to move/carry, and also you aren't stuck with a big tent for trips that is only usable when you have 6-8 people.

This tent will be used in two locations.  Cape Outlook, NC and Highland County, VA.  Both locations will be very primitive camp locations.  Both can experience crazy weather with high winds.  I will have between 2 and 4 grown ups in the tent every time.  We will be using Cabela's folding cots to sleep on so I need the big space.  I want a good waterproof tent, with a floor that can with stand moderate winds.

I'm currently using a Cabelas Alaskan Guide Tent but it is now eleven years old and starting to show its age.  I was fully prepared to a new version of the current tent but the reviews aren't anywhere near as good as when I bought the original.  Like I mentioned earlier, I'd like to keep this to around $600 but can go higher if there is a truly quality tent that will fit my requirements.  And, yes, this will be glorified car camping realistically.

So I went with the Cabela's Alaskan Guide Tent 8 person.  There were some reviews that mentioned the quality isn't the same but there were still a lot of great reviews also.  My current one has held up well but after the years it is showing its age.  I will try to get a review together and let you all know what the current model is like.  Thanks for your suggestions!

I have one of these.

...and it's held up GREAT for MANY years, but its only a 6 person tent if they are VERY good friends.

I have one of these. It is very strong.  I've been thru 30+ inches of snow in it.  Plus very high winds.

These are great but not something you want to set up and take down for a weekend.  Otherwise they are great tents for a log stay.

Big Agnes in high winds, I’d buy two four man tents and be happy.
