It doesn’t work great as a pistol pouch if getting to the gun in a hurry is your goal.  I’m not saying it’s worthless for that because there’s times I suppose where you’d want a gun concealed while on trails etc.  My advice is to make sure your zipper to the gun compartment is always staged in the same location and you might even consider adding a larger pull tab for quicker access.  If you don’t need concealment, a Kenai chest holster is far superior as far as carrying a gun on your chest.

With the HPG kit bag, I would just carry a few things other than my pistol in it, snacks , keys, and my cell phone.  Don’t need a knife or multi tool in there since I carry those clipped in my pants pockets.  Seems like some people try to stuff every cubic millimeter of them with “stuff” as George Carlin would say, things for every conceivable scenario on the planet.  I used to do that to, just realized after real world use I don’t need all that crap, just the essentials.

Eventually I came to the conclusion that I could much easier carry my pistol in a belt holster, my snacks, phone, etc in my pockets/cargo pockets, and my binoculars in a dedicated binocular chest harness.  

I need to put it on the EE since I never use it.
