The fun thing about hunting coyotes is there is no closed season so it's hard to say when one season ends and another begins. It has been awhile since I have been out, mostly due to vegetation and crops getting to tall to see them. While driving by one of the farms I hunt yesterday, I noticed they had just cut a wheat field. I didn't think I would have much luck this time of year, but decided to go out last night and try. I started with a few coyote vocals with no response. I then tried a few fawn distress calls, and had this one come out of the woods over 600 yards away. You can see him on the upper right corner of the screen. He hung up for awhile around 450, and after playing with some calls, he committed. I was going to let him stop, but he was almost directly downwind of me and I was afraid he would spook into the woods. Smaller male. Attached File |
