| Up in Virginia, I was always mindful to give a look for a bear when walking out the door, especially when letting my dogs out. Surprises weren't going to do anyone any good. All open hayfield on the side of a ridge, so they'd be pretty obvious if they were there, unless it was at night. And, half the day is night, so. |

I was gone for a couple weeks in January a few years ago, when I came back there were so many coyote tracks in the snow on my lawn it liked like they had had a dance party.  Edge of a small town surrounded by farm country and woods, I can really hear them after the farmers harvest their crops.I saw a big fox snake in my front lawn once. I was taking a nap and heard a few young boys talking; I initially thought they were passing on the sidewalk but noticed they weren't moving so I went outside and there they were in my front yard staring at a snake. I also think I saw a fisher cat even though I'm supposedly too far south. There's a small bridge over a ditch nearby and I watched as several cars stopped as a big weasel looking thing crossed over. It's been a few years but I'd guess it's body length wasn't much shorter than my parents' labs. |

On my farm up here in Northern Idaho I get all kinds of animals. Black bear, Grizzly, mountain lion, white tail, elk, moose, grouse, turkeys, hawks, bald eagles, skunks, coyotes, badgers, fox..Hell I could probably go on but outside of being charged by a mama black bear with cubs last year the only animal that I want to kill is a feral house cat that comes in every few weeks in the middle of the night and fights my barn cat. |

Large buck. It was just getting past what would normally be legal shooting time if I was bow hunting and I heard grunting while sitting inside. Kept hearing it when I went out to the deck and pulled my flashlight to see a Doe running through first, then a NICE buck. He was grunting the whole time and happened so fast I wasn't counting points. I'm on a half acre pretty close to a major highway so I USUALLY put a trail camera out in the Spring and Fall to catch coyotes, deer, turkey, raccoons, etc. Didn't have the camera out when that buck came through... |
