I've worn the Keen Targhee ii non-waterproof mids for years and have multiple pairs that I like better than anything else I've tried over the years. I was going through my boot collection today and tossing out the boots that are at the end if their lifespan. Went to Keen thinking I'd buy a pair or two on sale during the holiday weekend only to find that Keen stopped making non-waterproof stuff in 2024 from what I've subsequently been reading online. I hate waterproof boots. They get way too hot and they aren't really waterproof. Anyone have any suggestions for a replacement? I still have enough pairs of the non-waterproof Targhees to get through another summer season next year but this is ridiculous. I hate when a company takes a product you've been using for years and simply stops making it |

The first time I wore my "waterproof" keens, my socks where soaked after a couple of minutes walking in wet grass. Maybe they decided their waterproof shoes were non-waterproof enough and decided to drop the non-waterproof designation on the others.

I too had Keen boots that I loved for summer because they were ventilated and breathed well. This past spring when I went to replace them, I found out same as you that they only make waterproof boots now. I got some Salomon Quest 4D Forces since they still make a standard, non-waterproof version which aren’t even listed on their website. My feet are on the cusp of being wide in the forefoot, some shoes like Lowa are too narrow but most of the time a standard D width shoe fits fine. The Salomon boots fit fine in toe box for me, so maybe they’ll work for you too, but you’ll never know until you try them on. Every one’s feet are different. Size wise, the Forces have run true to size for me. The non-military models of their Quest boots changed a few years ago to where those run a bit larger than they did prior. Not sure why they did that but it was annoying. |
