What unbelievable stories have you heard? I'll start. Got a good buddy, hunted with him for many years. He is an avid gun owner. Friday night we were discussing his savage 30-06 rifle he brought to camp. He says yeah it's a single shot bolt action. He has owned this rifle since 1991. Didn't know it has an internal magazine for bullets. Has been hunting with it for 34 years as a single shot. We politely enlighten him, sorta.?? |

I wouldn't call it unbelievable since I believe it, but it does make me go hum. We weren't even hunting, I was talking with someone who was telling me about a doe they had shot. They said the shot was good, but the deer just kept running. He says he trailed the blood for 2 miles when they came across a dead doe. When gutted, he says it was a perfect heart shot with a softball size hole through the chest. Hmm... It doesn't take a PHD to realize the issue here. What really makes me wonder is where is the guy who actually shot that deer? I can only imagine his confusion when he tracked it to a T and found a blood trail in both directions, forever questioning his shooting. |
| My dad was on a lease for a few years with many other hunters. This is in Texas with box blinds and corn feeders. We each got a few hundred acre area so you can hear shots fired and general direction. One guy comes in after shooting and says he missed with his rifle inside 100yd. A day or two layer he comes back to camp again after having fired a shot and says it was another miss. Maybe it was equipment failure, or he is a horrible shooter, but gosh to miss 2x in a weekend with a rifle inside 100yd is embarrassing unless the scope either died or came loose in the rings. Another explanation is trying to cover up a poor shot so he doesn't loose his exotic animal allowance. But something sounded odd about that story to me. |
| My dad didn't bowhunt so i basically had to read magazines to "learn" how to do it. I was around 14 years old when I shot my 1st (a doe). I was using some monstrosity of a broadhead with 3 fixed blades and 3 opening blades that looked cool. Buckblaster was the name I think. Anyways, This doe walked into the beanfield I was hunting by and I took the shot. Shot looked perfect but she ran out of site across a fencerow, through a grassy field, and then turned left into a tall weed field. It was getting dark and I didn't have a flashlight so I decided to take the 1/4 mile walk to my friends house to call my dad for help. It was almost a mile walk back to my house. Took my dad a while to get there but once we found blood we found a lot. . . and it was steady. We followed it for 100 yards maybe and tracked it to a gut pile! I was crushed. Only thing I can think of that doesn't take into consideration that some people are just greedy assholes is that another hunter (that I didn't see) watched the hole thing go down, watched the deer fall, and assumed I must've thought I missed because I was walking South when the deer was East. I'm leaning towards greedy asshole because he had to gut that thing pretty damn quick and beat feet outta there. |

I'm sorry for the misfortune, but I wonder what the other half of stories like this are. Read my story, what if you are the other half? |

I've seen too many things in regards to deer hunting, both family and neighbors, or state land alike, to think of the better side of things. I've said for a long time that deer hunting can turn even the nicest guy (or gal) into people that they'd never normally be. Full disclosure, I've been guilty of it at times. |

Not my story but a buddy's. In Montana they came across an elk that had been shot, while looking at it they heard a rustle and guy that looked like an ad out of the Sears Roebuck catalogue comes out of the brush, they congratulated him on a nice buck and then "I shot it 20 minutes ago, what do I do now?" The group all chipped in to help show him how to hang and gut it while trying to not laugh. |

Any hunting can have jerks in it. Deer hunting is at least nicer than other things. Duck hunting for example is not in a great state. There's a reason when you hear of duck hunters being killed we all assume one of two things, right or wrong. |
