I miss my Mauser sporter. A buddy was needing a cheap deer rifle for his son and I opened my mouth and made him a deal. Seller's remorse got a lot better when he texted me a picture of a grinning kid with a nice 6 point buck

Yup, my days of using open sights in the woods for hunting are over.

The only pic of my Massachusetts hunting "rifle" I have on my phone. Savage 220. It identifies as a rifle.

Western hunters who don't use glass (non muzzleloader and archery of course) don't have much luck. Ethical shots at 500 yds or more with open sights is just not possible

I was able to sneak up on an antelope doe this last year and drill her somewhere around 75 yards. I saw her on the back side of a big mound. So I parked on the other side of the mound (about 400 yards away, rucked it up, and waited for her to cross in front of me as I peeped over the crest. My 7mm Rem Mag took the life from her right quick.

That certainly isn't the norm for western hunting but damn that was fun.

Shots here (central Ky hills) rarely reach 100 yds. Until very recently, I was very poor, so my rifles above reflect that. I just got used to them and rather enjoy it.

Pic thread, even though I haven't hunted with it yet.

Put this all together tonight. Nothing special. Cut 2" off the barrel of a Stevens 200, put a bigger bolt handle on it, and put a brand new Vortex Viper 3-9 in a DNZ Gamereaper. Medium Harris bipod.
