I had some free time, and my son wanted to get back out and into some fish. I decided to take him to a couple of different creeks. Day 1 we went to a spot that was about two and a half hours away. It is a little creek that can hold some nice fish. In addition to the normal setups, I decided to bring the 10'6" 3wt for some tight line nymph action. I also wanted to teach my son how to fish it and this creek was the perfect spot to learn. At first, we were both fishing standard rods. Nymphing under indicators, with no real action. I then decided to rig up the long rod, this proved to be the way... The first one to hand was small but the skunk was off.  After the first one, it wasn't long until the second came to hand.  I showed my son the technique and soon he had his first.  We fished for a while longer catching several more.  Unfortunately, as I was not sure what was working prior to the trip, I guessed wrong. I had not brought enough of the patterns that they were keyed in on. That and teaching a new fly fisher, we lost all the patterns that were working. We tried several others to no avail before catting it quits. On the way back, he said that we should get another Czech nymph rod. Day two was a tiny creek that was much closer to the house. Fishing was pretty slow with a total of only 6 between the two of us. Once again, the 10'6" 3wt was the star of the day. The fish were smaller, but it didn't matter as were back out on the water enjoying the day.

Indicator is just a fancy name for bobber! BTW, I went trout fishing last week, by far the latest in the year I have ever gone. Caught only native fish (in PA). Small but very colorful.Attached File |
