| Yes, I have some experience with them. Basically, for me they are a good overnight stay instead of a full campsite. Some are not level and some are not on stable ground ( many are on pastures, fields ) some on gravel and some have some basic amenities like power or water. I've stayed at a large orchard and farm market, a horse foaling farm and a bee / honey farm. All were more interesting than just staying at a KOA or other RV park. Most. Ask that you buy $30-40 of whatever they sell, depending on amenities they provide. There are all types of businesses that are included in Harvest Host, wineries, breweries, Alpaca farms, etc. |

It does seem that many of them would be good for the overnight as you mentioned, (on a long trip, or if you will be wanting to move around and stay a different areas in same state, etc..). Although I did see at some of them, there is the option of multiple nights. I think you are spot on as far as not being a full campsite, no outdoor cooking, no camp fires, etc... They are a great opportunity for a quick stay when you're on the road. Don't expect hookups, but it's typically just for that night. We've stayed at a small airport, that had an amazing WWII museum, with scale aircraft models and all sorts of legit memorabilia. Personal tour with cool details and stories. A brewery, where we camped out, had some of their beers, went to an ELO concert, and then left in the morning for the rest of our trip. A distillery south of Nashville, personal tour, filled a bottle of high octane whiskey out of a barrel, and headed out in the morning. If you do your research and take advantage of it, it's a great option for your travel planning. |
