Has anyone else received a letter from Honda about a safety recall for their EU200i genny?
Apparently there's a clamp on a fuel line coming from the tank that has the potential of wearing a hole in an adjoining fuel line. Sounds like something easily fixed without having to take the genny to a dealer, as they suggest. Serial# range is: EAAJ-2260273 to EAAJ-2485025 |

honda recall notice
Honda has announced a voluntary recall on some EU2000i generators. A fuel tube clamp may have been improperly positioned during assembly, and could damage another fuel tube, causing a fuel leak. Units within this range are part of the recall: EAAJ-2260273 through EAAJ-2485025. The serial number sticker is on the back side of the generator. |

I am going to tack this for a while and add the link to the thread about the Champion recall also since both seem to be very popular here. In any event, I've set both not to archive. | Anyone have any idea on the chances that it will leak? I have one that the inverter quit on, but I kept it because the 12V output still works so I can charge my UPS battery bank. It's behind a bunch of heavy ammo boxes in the back of a closet so I don't want to pull it out unless I have to. It's hard as hell to start even with starter fluid so I should probably just give it away.z |

Just checked both of mine...not in the affected range. |

Thanks for the pics! One of mine falls in the serial number range. I popped it open and the clamp was installed correctly. It was easier than dragging it to a dealer & waiting. |

Here is a link to Honda's Service Bulletin for the Safety & Emissions Recall. I'm not sure if you need to be a member of the Yahoo group to access it. I can email a copy to anyone that has trouble viewing it.

| Mine is in the serial number range so Icalled and talked with the Honda Company and was told to remove the spark plug door and to check to see if there was a "black dot" either on the engine or around that opening. I found mine just to the left of the opening on the lip where the door catch is. If you find that dot IAW to Honda the mod has been applied to your machine aready. |

I have a natural camo version of the the EU2000, and I could not find the serial number in the spot shown in that picture. I did however follow the guidelines to opening her up and checking that hose clamp. Everything looks like its in the proper orientation. I would still like to know where I can find my serial number though if anyone knows?
Thank you |

Honda guy here...with some details for everyone.
The EU2000i recall is due to a possible fuel leak. Honda had 4 reports of actual leaks, but no accidents, fires, injuries. It's important to have a Honda dealer inspect a unit if you have one in the affected range; here's why: • When a Honda dealer does the inspection, it's logged into Honda's database as being completed. Otherwise, Honda has no record of it being done. Should the day come when you want to sell your EU2000i, it's better for everyone if it can be officially determined any/all recall work has be done on the unit. • If you have not already registered your EU2000i, getting the recall work done at a dealer can do both at the same time. This will help (but is not required) for you to get warranty service in the future. It also gives Honda a way to contact you if there's ever an issue on the unit again. Note: If you got a letter from Honda about the recall, your EU2000i is already registered. Note 2: Honda will never use, sell, rent, etc. your contact information for any solicitation/selling/marketing. A few more facts/FYI: • You do not have to register your EU2000i to obtain warranty service. If you don't register, and want warranty service, you would need to provide proof-of-purchase to determine when the 3-year warranty period started. • Not getting the unit inspected for this recall will not "void the warranty." The warranty is in place no matter what, and technically can't be voided. • The recall is for all units in the affected range. Based on Honda records, all of them were manufactured in the last 18 months, so warranty is active on all, but not required, to get the recall inspection/repairs done free of charge. For information only, here's copy of the complete bulletin; please note this is provided just for your review and not intended as a DIY guide. Honda EU2000i Recall Complete Bulletin Questions? Tri-fuel generators, ah yes. Lots of interest in those these days, especially with all the issues associated with ethanol fuels and plugged-up carburetors.
I can tell you Honda is always looking at different fuel types and configurations. About 10 years ago, Honda did offer a propane, 4,000 watt model. It was not a big seller, I think mostly because at that time propane was MUCH more costly than gasoline. Today, the main obstacles are market size and certifications. The market is out there for tri-fuel units, for sure, but the meat of it is in fixed-install, home-standby, generally above 10kw. All current Honda's generators are portable, and there very little interest (market size) in portable tri-fuel units. It's also very costly to manufacture and certify (Federal EPA and California ARB) a tri-fuel unit under current emission rules. This would not be an issue if there was a larger market estimate for portable versions. My crystal ball says Honda will most likely continue to focus on portable units that run on gasoline. -Robert@Honda Caveat: I work for Honda, but the preceding is my opinion alone. |

Maybe it is for the best; if everyone was running their generators on propane, it wouldn't have been so easy to get propane during Sandy! |

Well I just put 50 minutes on mine. Guess I'll check.
Breaking in the engine even though I bought it close to a year ago. Glad I popped in here. ETA: Forgot to update. Checked my mine and it was turned around. I simply turned it and put the lid back on. Thanks. |

Hi folks,
I may be new to this board and am replying to an older post, but let me assure you that I have a picture worth viewing. I am not new to Honda or the generators made by Honda. I have been a technician for over 16 years and am currently working at a dealership. Thank you Robert_at_Honda for posting good information about the bulletin. rhanson94 do not kid yourself into thinking that just by viewing the line from the front of the generator that you have a "GOOD" view of the damaged caused to the line. I can assure you that even though the line looks like there is little to no damage, the line is actually worse than it looks. Please take a close look at the picture I provided. This unit has been in service for a while and the hours are unknown, but the damage to the line is very apparent and almost through to the center. The only way to properly inspect the line for damage is to use a mirror and a lamp. I have seen units with as little as 3-5 hours with this much damage. This is why it is recommended you take it to the dealer. I may work at a dealership, but this is no reflection on the dealership or Honda. My picture and my opinion, http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/1024x768q90/716/16zd.jpg |
