Striking a flint on a steel breaks up the stone. This guy drags the stone across the steel; this produces good sparks, plus is less abusive to the stone.* The tutorial starts at about 2:30. Interesting. He must be where he can't good enough rock I am guessing. And/or that is a pretty big steel too he can grip and drag. Not a first choice for rock, but even quartz will work with the flint and steel method on charred materials. Also, not going to be able to do his technique when using the spine of a carbon knife. Glad you shared though as adding another 'arrow to the quiver' so to speak. |
