I put this in trapping since I figured there would be people knowledgeable on hides and tanning. We found a small alligator in our farm pond in a part of the state where there shouldn’t be any. We called and got a depredation permit. I don’t want to pay someone to tan the hide, it’s really to small to justify the cost. I have never tanned a hide, although I have skinned lots of deer, squirrel, etc. Is there a DIY way I can preserve or tan the hide for display (I’m not trying to make leather for belts, wallets, etc.) without buying a bunch of acids. I do have a 40lb bag of salt I use on turkey tail fans and such. Thanks! |
