Hey guys, I know very little about ice fishing but looking to try to get into it with my Dad and brother. So we need all the gear. My brother went with a guy and he had a vexilar. Made me start thinking, I have an old vexilar that I got in a bundle deal with a Humminbird fish finder and a trolling motor. Its sitting in the garage. Has anyone rigged one up to use one for ice fishing? Probably just need to rig up a 12v battery system for it and then maybe a different transducer? I have no idea how the ice versions are different, so this could be a stupid idea. Gonna be cruising the classifieds especially in the next few months looking for gear. Thanks for any ideas! |

I doubt it is, the screen is mounted in a metal frame to be mounted on a boat. Also the power leads and transducer wire is way long, probably 8ft for power and 20+ ft for the transducer that is also a stern mount type. I was considering mounting it up front on my 16ft lund vhull, but after seeing how reasonable fish finders can be find used I am gonna go that route. The humminbird is mounted on the center console, I wouldnt mind mounting another up front maybe with a trolling motor mounted transducer. Havent gotten that far, paid 700 for boat/motor/trailer. Rehabbed the trailer, gutted and almost done redoing the boat interior. Then to get the 35 Evinrude going, or I may just hang a 40 Yamaha on it. |
