Alright fellas, time to come clean I think I've crossed into full-blown bass fishing addict territory. I've been collecting gear for the last 15 years. I've got tackle boxes stacked like Legos, lures in every color that 'might work someday,' and around 20 rods/reels. TWENTY. And yet, I still don't own a boat. Not even a kayak. I'm still out here bank beating like it's my job. The funniest part? My 5-year-old son looks at me one day and says, 'Dad, why is the garage 1/4 full of your fishing stuff?' I just told him, 'I had most of this before you were even born.' Every time I tell myself, 'That's the last lure I'm buying,' I somehow end up at Bass Pro or scrolling Tackle Warehouse at 2AM convincing myself that this chatterbait, this color, this rod is the missing piece of the puzzle. Spoiler: it never is. Anyone else in the same boat or should I say, not in a boat? How many rods/lures is too many before we admit we've got a problem? |

| Its funny you say that. Im going the opposite way. I normally carry 15-18 rods in my boat for a tournament. Im trying to downsize some to cut down on the "mind" clutter. I would find myself cycling through bait after bait and just needed to focus on fishing my strengths and finding fish. |

Yeah, I sometimes wonder why I even have some of this gear then I remember it works perfectly with a specific lure. My wife keeps telling me to just hang onto it and pass it down to my son someday. Now, JIGS they're my nemesis. I swear I can't catch a thing on them, yet I've got a ton. One time in a bass tournament, I lost 8 jigs because rookie me thought braid line would help. Spoiler: it just slices through them like butter. |

| Sometimes you just have to stick to what works. I will tell you this about jigs. I make custom tackle (painting baits, jigs, spinnerbaits etc)...between spinnerbaits and jigs, they are the most picky/precise orders I get. This shape, this hook, this hook eye angle, 6 strands of black, 5 strands brown, etc. It just gets wild...and only with those two it seems like. |
| I have a dozen rods I keep in the back of my jeep. Usualy grab 2 or 3 and toss them in the boat depending on conditions and how I feel on any given day. Also have a few more in the basement and 2 more sitting behind me in my bedroom right now that I have never even put line on. I feel like I have a good grip on it though. My most expensive one is only $300.I have lost track of tackle boxes. I use the 3700 series boxes, and keep them in milk crates and then I have a Lews backpack that I wil toss a few into if I plan on bank fishing. Fishing has sucked so ad this year though that I have only hit the bank about 5 times and the boat has only been in the water twice. I have caught a total of 3 fish this year. In my defense though I have been away from home for the last 6 weekends and will be gone away from home again tomorrow but I do have Sunday free . |

When I got rid of my boat and got into kayaks, it has really pushed me into a minimalistic approach to what I buy and use on the lake. Since I have two lakes that I predominately fish at I know what lures I have the most luck with, and my tackle has stayed fairly static. I may try one or two new lures every now and then but having more than 5 rods is a major PITA. The more I try and lug around with the kayak the more I decide I don't need to bring with me. Take that desire to buy shit for yourself and reinvest it into Zebco Lightning McQueen poles and memories with that 5 yr old. No amount of lures will ever have more value that those hours on the water!  ETA: Alcoholics should stay away from the bars, so maybe try and keep driving when the siren song of Bass Pro appears on the distance.

I have way more rod and reel combos then I will ever need, I have even given a couple away in the last year or so, tackle might be worse, I can probably fish the next 5-10 years and not need to buy any tackle, but all I need to do is see a nice shiny lure or something on sale and I will be indulging myself

For bass all I need is Zoom Finesse 6” worm, in black, and a 2/0 hook. They just jump out of the water. |
