Chest packs for wearing while backpacking/hiking (Page 1 of 2)

| Went hiking and camping recently with @axl and he had a chest pack. I was wondering what everyone has and recommends? I’d like to use this for ccw as well as carrying keys, radio, wallet, and other essentials. |

I just ordered this to use while hunting for things like you mentioned. It actually should be delivered today, I’ll subscribe and let you know what I think when I get a chance to LARP with it. Another vote for HPG. I have the Runner's in Gray. It's neutral and non-tactical looking, vs some of the more molle'd types. Normies don't bat an eye. The ONLY folks who give it a second glance are the 'discreet nod' types (other trail folks carrying, who give that knowing nod in recognition). |

Hill People Gear +??? RibzWear makes a nice pack for use when canoeing or kayaking. Lower slung with a pouch above each hip and has more room than the HPG runners chest pouch but takes a bit of fangleling to carry securely. |

I use a HPG SAR. Love it and used it all summer. Just have to resist the urge to pack it too heavy. It carries well no matter how its loaded, but it doesn't make alot of sense to be a gram weenie on the pack, tent and sleep system just to go and throw 5 lbs on your chest. I still put in more than I need on day hikes, but for multi night trips when I'm trying to do alot of miles I just carry my LCP max, a tiny SAK, a mini Bic and snacks like a bag of trail mix or skittles. |

Search for other discussions posted on this forum and another website by user ROCK6. Really excellent evaluation and comments on Hill People Gear chest pouches from practical field experience. Very helpful when I was interested and trying to figure out which model would work best. |

Yeah, big advocate of HPG kit bags, I think I have about a dozen variations by now. Well worth the investment for active, outdoors CCW. |

Has anybody ever tried tying the chest rig directly to their backpacks straps? I know it would shift the weight of the entire backpack, but surely the chest rig isn't heavier than your backpack. I just hate the idea of straps over straps and buckles, and backpacks over straps and buckles. |

I have had mine for years now, and it's still going strong (original kit bag before there were any other options out there.) I use it for everything from hiking, camping, riding motorcycles, ATV... The only thing I don't use it for is hunting. |
