The wife and I are wanting to take the camper to the beach without kids next summer, 2027. Looking for suggestions on places that are more attuned to couples and adults and aren't necessarily family-focused. No, we are NOT swingers. Just looking for places where families aren't the priority. Focus on North Carolina and South Carolina. Trying to tap into local knowledge here. Thank you |

I am not sure about Charleston as I hate the thought of going there for any reason. Dirty Myrtle is mostly out as all the big ones(Ocean Lakes, Pirateland and the new 1000 trails part, KOA) are just filled with kids. But Myrtle Beach Travel Park is up above North Myrtle right where Hwy#22 comes out at Tanger mall(your wife will like). I've been there in the summer, and while there are pools and kids, it seemed more like a retirement home on wheels and it does have direct beach access. YMMV Hilton Head has no camping on the island, but there is a campground just off the island with access to the waterways. I've never stayed there, but I have been thru there while going on a guided boat tour. There are some inland and beach access campgrounds off the southern NC islands area, but I have no experience there either. |

It is very difficult to get a spot there. The lots are dirt and generally small. SC state parks allow you to book 13 months in advance. You will need to do that to get any spot ay edisto and they fill up fast even then. Be sure to check the length of RV each lot will allow as many are 30’ and even 25’ and smaller max capacity. Another good one that is tough to book is hunting island state park. They have an actual historic lighthouse there, but check to see if it is open. When I went last year, it was closed for construction. Huntington Beach State park also is very nice, but tough to book on short notice for summer stays. Especially if you want full hookup. Last I went, it took a 13 month plan. no |

We have a 22ft, single axle camper, so it shouldn't be an issue. Ill check out the other places you suggested as well. Thank you. |

I have only been RV camping since 2020. I have never been to Edisto SP simply because I have never attempted the 13 month thing there. I have tried every year to book as much as 6 months out and never found a spot. It has not been a priority spot for me simply because I dislike the Charleston area so much. But, I know people that go there regularly and love it. My stay last year at Hunting Island SP required a 13 month reservation for a stay in April during my kid's spring break. It is a nice park, but I will not go back. It is right near Parris Island Marine Recruit depot. Ask any Marine about the sand gnats. They made my trip horrible! I have more experience with Huntington Beach SP. My last trip there in June, 2023 was a 10 day stay that required the 13 month reservation for a spot on the newer south end with full hookups. The beach is great. You can walk all the way to the jetty(pack lunch and drinks). It is not in MB, so you can use pop up tents on the beach. Also, look at pricing. HBSP nightly fees are nearly as high as the big campgrounds with pools and other amenities. If you are over 65, you do get a discount tho. If you've stayed at Myrtle Beach SP, any of the ones above are better(IMHO). MBSP needs some updating, the lots are crappy and will flood during rain, and you have to walk a LONG way to the beach. Plus, it is right at the end of the runway for the airport. But, it does have a pier |

Forgot. The SC State Parks reservation website uses 24 hour, not work hours. Preferred sites can and will book at 12:01 am. I can't remember right now, but I think the entire stay has to fall within the 13 month window. Like I mentioned above, I booked a 10 day stay. By the time I had a full 10 day window, only a couple of sites were still available. Technically, I could have made multiple efforts to book consecutive days, but what if you miss a day and its gone.. well, you lost |

We are going to try a National Forest campground just north of the bridge to Emerald Isle next month. Electric and water only at the sites. Dump station on the grounds. Very reasonably priced. https://www.recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/233312?tab=info |
