I carried a G20.4 in Alaska with UW extreme penetrators. I carry my G19.5 with UW extreme penetrators in the AL woods and feel fine with it. |

| You pretty much have to make an appointment to be attacked by a black bear. They are very skittish and avoid humans as best they can. |

| Probably anything good enough for a hog would work, I’d say 9mm minimum but 45, 10mm, 357, .44 better. .44 mag may be a bit overkill but it’s a classic western cartridge capable of taking any game. I’m a 10mm fan but most of the time carry my hk45c if I’m not carrying 9mm. |

Naples is black bear country with one very recent fatal attack and several non fatal attacks. one close by neighbor had his bull mastiff pulled off the porch and killed while the anti gun family heard it screaming. baby bear out for a late night stroll |

I have a vacation condo in Lely Resort area of Naples. So many bears walk right down the street mostly in the summer. Mothers and cubs. Every ring camera has videos. Been going on for the 12 years I’ve been there. I killed one in Maine with a 35 whelen and one in NY with a 35 Remington. |

| I threw a full beer at a black bear when one surprised me in camp and i feel like it was a waste of a beer. FL black bears are big raccoons. I carry my g19 in the woods. Black bears in FL are not scary. Carry gun is fine, you wont need to shoot it. If you shoot a black bear in self defense here you may even be looked at weird (by the greenjeans) bc they fucking RUN from people. |

I am the first to admit that I don't take them seriously. I grew up with them roaming through my neighborhood and have literally chased them out of my yard. That being said my main reason for not fearing them is that A I don't pursue them or spend time around them anymore and B the numbers/data make clear that they aren't really a threat worth a lot of worry. As I said that was the first recorded death in Florida EVER recorded. So in all the years they've been keeping track and all the bear interactions there's been one single death. So many things you do daily are more dangerous. We all get caught up in worst case scenarios. It's part of the protector mindset to worry about such things but a little bit of forethought and common sense coupled with the odds says you'll be alright when it comes to black bears in Florida. I haven't looked at all the data in a long time but a few years ago it seemed like a very high number of the fatal black bear(maybe all bears) came from the BC area of Canada and if you were outside of that it wsa extremely uncommon. Similar to how people love quoting gun deaths in America without acknowledging that almost all of it comes from very small specific areas. |
