I'm heading to Bigfork in a few weeks with the family. I'll have a little bit of time to get away, I was wondering if there are any quick go fishing for an hour or two spots close to Bigfork? I saw that the Swan River empties into the lake at Bigfork. Is it worth trying to hit it up for a little action? Either below or above the dam. I'm not looking for a tough wade, but easy access would be great. I'll even take recommendations for places a little farther out, we are planning on going to the park as well that week. I figured I'd drive around once I got there, but knowing ahead of time of access points could be helpful. Thanks! |
| Our family ranch was on the Swan about 40 minutes upstream of Bigfork. Haven’t fished the Swan for 45 years but I did catch my first fish on a fly on it. East slope cutthroats brookies in side channels and rainbows. There were bull trout way back then but they are off limits now. There was a decent flyshop in whitefish that gave me good info. Flat head river was well known for cutthroats. Sorry I don’t have any current info. |
