So he was a little hungry and a little dehydrated and had two cuts on his front leg but was other wise fine. He is really milking the cuts though as I bandaged them up and he started limping whenever he was around me. But when he chases squirrels or anything else there is no limp. Drama Queen! |

In between the rain I was able to continue work on the porch…. I cut the corner post today as well as two more sill plates. Attached File Attached File Attached File I have one more sill plate left but I have to mill another 6x6 in the morning and then I can fit all the floor joist and maybe get the subfloor installed. That is if it doesn’t rain all day tomorrow. And a little update…. Someone had to take a trip to the vet to get a couple sets of stitches yesterday. Attached File He weathered the visit well, got some good pain meds and will be leash bound for the next week. It was something like 14 stitches total to close both cuts, but he’ll live. He’s not happy about being on the lead but if I don’t he’ll be in the pond again. |

So I am off for the next week and I hope to get the addition dried in. Friday I was able to get the third floor plat installed and also set the front top sill as well….. Attached File Attached File Attached File Attached File Yesterday, however, you sometimes run into unexpected obstacles…. I had a red fir log that I cut from a blow over and was gonna cut the other 6x6 top sill for when lo and behold….. Attached File Talk about a ‘poop sandwich’! A perfect looking log from a healthy tree…. I cut the first 6x6 from the lower section of the tree ( several posts back) Yes that is a huge ant nest in the middle of the log. Anyway, I went out and found another suitable pine tree that the top blew out of and will cut the remains posts and sub-flooring out of. |

I was able to get all the floor joists fit today….. Attached File Attached File Attached File Attached File I also dropped a big pine tree this morning, that’s top had blown out earlier this year in the wind storm. I should be able to get all the remaining posts and possibly the 5/4 sub-floor boards. |

Today, I hauled one of the new logs to the mill to get the other top plate and a few rafters…. Attached File Attached File I didn’t get a good picture of it but I used the tractor and a tow strap to pull the beam into place 10 ft up…. Attached File Attached File With a little blood, sweat, and bruising I was able to get it up and in place…. Attached File I have a couple more rafters to cut in the morning as well as milling the sub-floor boards so I can get the floor insulation installed. Also, first thing this morning I secured all the floor joists and prepped them for the bottom board to help protect and seal the insulation. |

This morning I was able to install the rafters. They will join up flush with the water shed roof when I remove the old metal, sheet it with plywood and stall the new galvanized roof metal…. Attached File Attached File Attached File Attached File I had to cut an additional 4x6 rafter so I started cutting true 5/4 1x6 boards for my subfloor as well. I have two more logs to cut the rest of the subfloor board from. They will most likely be a mix of 1x6 & 8’s…. Attached File |

Yesterday was a LONG day of fixing a bunch of shortcuts made a couple years ago on the water shed. I took the metal roof off and had to trash all the insulation due to all the mice nest and filth. So after tearing it all out and sealing up all the spaces, it is now ready for new insulation… Attached File Attached File After doing that I did the same for the floor of the addition… Attached File I have to go pick up the insulation and some other necessities today and will hopefully have the roof deck up and ready for metal by this evening. In a perfect world, and with everything going as smoothly as I want, I may even make it to the mill to finish cutting the subfloor planks.👌 Attached File |

Insulation, decking, underlayment, and drip edge installed…. Attached File Attached File Attached File Attached File I was interrupted by my neighbor to go unload a trailer of hay rounds with my tractor so that put a damper on heading to the mill today. Gonna take a break and then decide whether to put the metal up, or not, when it cools off a bit. UPDATE: Yes I did make it back last evening to put the metal up. Even though I just tacked it down so that I can make a few adjustments, I did indeed get it done. Attached File |

Good work! i find all your projects motivational for me. as for mice. i had a kitten show up on my woodpile two winters ago. i have never been a "cat person". but i am regularly impressed by the number of mice corpses left in front of my house. my mouse problem has disappeared. the icing on the cake. a couple months back i walked out to feed the chickens. i found this: Attached File gotta tell you. i might be a cat person. |

Lots more progress today…. Subfloor installed. Attached File Attached File And I also roughed in the door as well. Attached File I almost forgot the insulation, below the subfloor, as well as in the ceiling. Attached File Tractor is down. 😭 Front tire was low so I aired it up yesterday and pulled the logs over to the mill and and this morning it was flat and there was a tear in the sidewall so I went ahead and ordered a couple new tires which should be in before next weekend. UPDATE: I went out a little later this afternoon and started the internal framing for the walls. Attached File Tomorrow I will finish the framing, put up the sheeting and hopefully get the house wrap installed. |

I pushed hard this morning and was able to get everything framed and sheeted. All that is left is the house wrap and that will be done a little later this afternoon. Framing…. Attached File (The reason for the overbuilt floor) So that I can do a ‘pop up’ style bakery three days a week. Basically, I want to get out of the lumber yard and do the bakery and see what I can make of it. If the bakery takes off and proves to be a viable business then I will build another 16x20 cabin next to this one and move the bakery over there and add a laundry room in it as well. Then this space will become a mud room with plenty of cabinets for storage. |

Mission completed! I finished what I had planned for my vacation time. House wrap is up and the addition, as well as water shed, are ready for the t&g siding which I hope to complete next weekend. Yesterday and this morning I concentrated on the burning and installing the siding on the ‘straight’ sides of the addition…… Attached File Attached File I would burn it early in the morning and then get it installed before the heat set in….. tomorrow I will tackle the remaining walls. After finishing the siding I began working on the eaves…. Attached File These are 1x6x1/2” cedar fence boards that I got to do the cedar shake look and I think they turned out pretty good….. Attached File Attached File I didn’t have enough to finish but I can get more from work. I plan on treating them with the same linseed oil/ ready seal mix that I will do for the rest of the cedar. |
