Well I have yet to go, but this fall I will be hitting hard in multiple locations in WV with and without dogs. With dogs I will be packing a 1972 Winchester model 94 30-30 (this is the most common rifle guys use here when hunting with the use of dogs) and during a few solo bear hunts I will be taking my Mathews Halon 32 (hogg father single pin, maxim red arrows with Rage Trypan broadheads, ect.). |

123gr SST 130yds and less than 10yds High shoulder, where the joint is. Where I hunt bears, we don't want them to run. So we try to immobilize them first shot, then follow up if required. The 130yd bear was 300lbs, the close bear was maybe 150lbs. Obviously nothing wrong with a lungs/heart shot though. |

Remington 700 in 308 ammo - Amax 168 (Very little expansion of bullet, no blood at location where shot) how how many yards? 113 yards and lastly the bullet placement. Placement was upward shot hitting at the middle of ribs a bit too high. Exit was 4" below spine on opposite side. Got both lungs. Ran 40 yards strait at us down hill and rolled up to take a nap. |

| I've killed a bunch of black bear and I am convinced that the reason some think they are so hard to kill is that the shot placement on bear is more difficult to one unfamiliar to the physiology than it is for deer hunters, for example, who can moire easily place a bullet in the kill zone. |

Hmm, I have shot 9 grizzly, been along for another 30 or so..most of them all front shoulder shots, hanging back toward the crease just slightly, a few have been head on, bear running at me..center of chest, just below neck..One was a bear running straight away down hill bullet went in just left of the spine right behind the shoulder.....Most take one shot to kill, some will take 1-2 more just because, rifle on my 9 bears, 300 rum , handloads 200 barnes X at 3150....

4 inch 44 mag , 12 or so feet , frontal skull shot. 3 inch 44 mag , 8 feet or less, frontal skull shot. both dropped in a second. shot a few more at other ranges with 300 win , but nothing drops them like a skull shot. |
