I received the call no one wants to get. A neighbor's dog had been wounded by a pair of coyotes. I went into their backyard and called in this pair to help keep the neighborhood safe. I know the houses looked close but they were way out of actual range.  Backyard Coyotes: KC Ep. 218 |

Just found this section. Enjoying the videos. Just getting into coyote hunting. Have a DNT Thermnight 335 on order. 20 inch AR with a Gemtech suppresor that will be my primary weapon of choice. While waiting for all my equipment to get in, I am using a friend's AR, 18 inch Barrel and a DNT Thermnight 225. I believe it has a Deadair suppressor. Been out three times now, first night we got 3, 2nd and 3rd nights were a bust. We did see plenty of deer and one bear. No permit needed in NC, just a reg hunting license. No limit, they are considered a neusaance. |

I have a coyote problem. Just lost a cat to the bastards. They are coming from some fields and woods near my house but I have to cross private property, yards, etc to get to it. My location is very rural and I dont think I can use anything centerfire. I only have a suppressor for a .22LR rifle that I have equipped with NV but no thermal. Ive hunted yotes at night before using an AR with NV laser and my PVS-14. Just sneaking around the woods and fields and got lucky on a pack of them. But I cant roam around my neighborhood like that. So...is a 22LR adequate for coyotes? Maybe 50-75 yards? Is thermal a must? Is calling them in the best way? Should I resort to poison? Claymore mines? My heart is filled with bloodlust and murder. |

A baitpile might work or calling are probably the most common ways. Thank you for the advice. I am NOT a hunter by any stretch, just an ex-soldier and gun guy now. I would like to get thermals just because they are cool and also because the coyote problem will not go away. And I may need to keep pressure on them. A few years ago when we lost several cats I went on the hunt with NV at night. My terrain is a mix or rural neighborhoods that border large fields and thick forests, some open fields and dirt roads. I managed to ambush a pack of yotes in this way, years ago, just walking quietly along a trail under NV. I agree on the poison since we have numerous domestic animals along with our neighbors' numerous dogs. I sat in the woods behind our house just listening and watching under NV and along came a possum, who didnt notice me until I shooed him away. Then a racoon who came maybe 20' away then noticed me and scampered off. I would not want to hurt anything of those critters. I've thought about trapping also but I think I would be only catching racoons and possums. I guess as long as I am roaming the forests and sitting in the woods, the coyotes will just stay away and I can settle for that. |
