I’ve got the EDC and long hiking covered. My only real experience would be with Eberlestock and some ultralight companies. Ideally a pack with Molle on the back panel, two water bottle holders, and front load capable. Unsure if I’ll need/want a hip belt but having ability to use/remove when I like is helpful. Needs to carry for one person and cover the items normally required for a longer trip, just less of it I suppose. Considering a couple in the EE; Everlestock Little Teick, Hill People Unlindi and the Vertx Overlander. Also, new Eberlestock Switchblade or Little Brother although the latter seems more setup for a rigid frame use? Can’t say price isn’t an issue…I want to get this right. But, I’d probably start to balk at $300 for something new. FWIW, I can get a 30% discount on most Eberlestock. Thanks peeps! |

I like my Granite Gear Perimeter 35, it’s not the lightest at 3lb but if you’re looking at Eberlestock UL isn’t a priority for you. It has a spring steel rod perimeter frame and handles weight very nicely, Granite Gear says 40lb and I’ve had about 30 in mine with no discomfort. Torso length and shoulder strap width are both adjustable, and the hip belt is adjustable as well (2 models, 26-40” and 36-52”.) The lid is a little on the small side, but I generally put my first aid kit and TP in the bottom flap pouch which leaves plenty of room for a hat, gloves, socks, and a few other things in the lid. Plus it looks like their larger add-on lids for other packs may fit as well. Maybe best of all, they’re on sale right now at GG for $115. The only thing I don’t like very much is they have drawstring closures instead of roll-tops. If 35l isn’t enough capacity they also have a Perimeter 50 for $125, but these things are both bigger than their advertised sizes would have you think. They both have collar extensions and I can fit as much in my Perimeter 50 as I can in my Crown2 60l. |

I checked the lid from a Granite Gear Blaze 60 AC I have and it fits the Perimeter 35, capacity is 5l compared to 1-2l for the Perimeter lid so quite an increase in capacity. If my knees don’t hurt too badly after work tomorrow I’m hiking up a local mountain for an overnight, temps are forecast to be in the mid 30s so I packed the Perimeter 35 with a 3.5lb Luxe Lightwave tent, 25F Sierra Designs down bag, Exped 5R LW pad, 2 days food, stove & pot, 2l water, electronics including GoPro and 2 battery banks, and an extra layer or 2 the weight is 33lb. Absolutely comfortable with the minimum amount of weight on my shoulders that’s needed to stabilize the pack. |
