I like the 300bo. Replicated x39 pretty closely. I’m looking at 338arc to exaggerate those characteristics. Ar15 platform, lite, suppress or not easy, reliable mag feeding, and hard hitting without over penetration. Like throwing a rock. Anyone used it yet? Supers or subs. |

Shot 2 pigs this weekend with the 338. First was a sow at about 100 yards. Looks like I hit her right above the ear. (See screenshot at trigger pull) She dropped, kicked for a few seconds and ran into the woods. It was a fast hunt, I was watching a ballgame when she showed up on camera so I rushed to the field. It was in daylight and I didnt have a good picture on my thermal. She bumped a tree about 20 feet into the woods with her left side so the bullet exited. Swampy area so I didnt track her far.  Next guy was about 5:20 this morning. I made a bad shot. He was 10 feet or so below me so I thought the bullet would drop. He ran like hell and I didnt bother to track him. Cool screen shots of trigger pull and impact. .26 seconds apart. Been averaging 1091 FPS, so 94 yards.

Well, I have now shot 5 pigs with the 338 subs. None have been recovered. Im sure 4 of them are dead but I normally dont track them due to the thick underbrush. Im going to sight it in with the 175 gr supers. I was really hoping the subs would be effective, it’s so quiet! Bonus, got my 308 lbs skull back. (Shot with 300BLK 125 gr)

I didn't recover any hogs when I tried .300 BLK subs, I switched to supers pretty quick. 110 gr vmax works great. I have a suppressed single shot .44 mag and some 400 gr subs. I may bring it along on the next hog hunt. I shot a deer with it, perfect heart shot at about 30 yards, it ran off, then turned around and ran back to me. Died about 10 feet from where I shot it. But I'm not really a fan of subsonics for hogs unless there is a reason to be really quiet like shooting in a neighborhood. Subs are still loud enough to scare the hogs, they don't just stand around when guns are going off. So might as well shoot supers. With suppressed supers the hogs are confused and can't tell where the shots are coming from so they run in every direction instead of straight away from you. |

I switched to supers. Me and a buddy set up on a hog at 110 yards. We did a simultaneous shot. His 300BLK 125 gr super, my 338ARC 176 gr super. Pig ran off at top speed. See the pics below of the video frames at trigger pull. Im the white hot and was a little high but his shot was ear hole! Both rifles were confirmed zero just a few hours earlier.

I have gone back to 308. I had a Christensen Scout that had no mission. LOL. It’s not as light as the 338 I built but it gets the job done. Im going to put a 3x9x44 on top and use it to take some does in some of our smaller fields this year. Typically 40-80 yard shots
