I stick to largemouth and spotted bass fishing, my local river/lake doesn’t have any smallies, but the in-laws bought me a bunch of crappie lures. Do I need anything else or am I pretty much good to go? I have some 1/8th and 1/16th jig heads and some assorted Strike King crappie lures. Attached File |

I have kinda caught the bug for crappie fishing myself lately, since discovering there were a few "slab" crappie in a lake I bass fish a lot. I caught several of them here and there, and after they were filleted & fried up, I decided I wanted to catch more. A LOT more. 
I use a variety of jigs: Bobby Garland, Southern Pro, Charlie Brewer, and others, on 4x4 jigs and road runners. Haven't fooled with the minnows much - last time I took some shiners, I caught the crap out of some largemouth and spots, and not a single crappie. Then I tried "long lining" jigs, and caught a couple (hey its the winter pattern here), so now I plan to target them on some waters known for crappie around here. I just started fishing Lake Lanier since Santa bought me a boat, and a ramp is only 15 minutes away, and while it isn't known as a primo crappie fishery like Oconee or Blackshear, there's a good population there, and lots of docks to fish. |

Richard Gene the Fishing Machine ETA...downsize your jig heads OP. I don't usually use anything bigger than 1/16oz and my most used are either 1/32 or 1/64oz. |

| Pretty much how my Dad started me fishing was going after Crappie with a minnow under a bobber, still do it on occasion, river I fish for Smallmouth in the spring the Crappie run up in there shallow and I use a small like 1.5-2" grub with a 1/32oz jig head a few inches under a bobber and do pretty well. |

I was gonna come in here and start a crappie thread. I've got the bug bad. I had great success with a Panfish Assassin fished under a bobber with a 1/16 jig head a couple weeks ago. My first ever of a fish I've wanted since I was a kid. Gonna try to go this weekend, too. |

Caught a new PB crappie; 2 lb 4 oz. I was wearing them out using a Daiwa Gekkabijin (JDM) 1.5g jig head with a trout magnet on it, but I changed to a Moonshine Jigs "Elmo" 1/32 jig and caught the big one.
