Hello guys, My son, brother and I were able to do our annual pig hunt today. We were looking for a nice sow around 100-120lbs and my son was able to take this nice female with my new Ruger SFAR 308. He used a 180gr Corelok which shoots like a laser out of this gun. The shot was around 50yds offhand. It was a nice head shot which traveled out the right side of the neck. She was DRT. This one should be very tasty I actually considered getting rid of the SFAR as it had a short chamber and would not shoot any of my reloads. I sent it back to Ruger and they had it back in a week with a new barrel assembly. It now shoots anything I put into it. The gun shoots very soft for 308 and carries like a normal AR15 in 5.56. Ruger did well with this gun and it proved itself today.. My brother took a nice boar hog. With the 300blk I built for him years ago. That gun has taken many hogs over the last few years and today was no exception. All in all a great day and continuation of a tradition we started 10 years ago. The owner of the property has become a good friend over the years as well and told us he really appreciates it when we hunt there. He said I can actually tell you are real shooters as well as hunters. Two shots……two kills….lol. He said some guys have fired as many as 10 shots without hitting anything.     |

I was a couple hundred miles north this weekend on a mountain range where the department of wildlife had released 14 bighorn sheep this year, lions had already killed 4 and I don't think that counted the lambs. There had been 2 lions killed but there are more there. A few years ago I was working another mountain range where the wildlife department was capturing bighorns. The biologist there said there had been ten lions removed from that small mountain range and there were still more lions left. They are really rough on sheep and livestock.I found a mustang in a narrow canyon once that had been killed. Some gravel fell down off the ledge and when I looked up the lion was looking at me. Gave a growl like a house cat. Like I said you really need dogs because chance encounters like that are rare. |
