Always enjoy your stories. Thanks for sharing. I've only "hunted" mulies once, and it wasn't anything like your hunting. I was in SD with a whitetail or mulie tag. Guide said he'd been seeing a huge mule deer buck nearly everyday for the last few weeks in the same spot. We sat in his running F-350 in the middle of a huge field listening to the diesel churn. Not exactly what I consider hunting. We spotted the buck (Boone and Crocket easily) in a thicket with about 5 doe. Apparently the guide wasn't the only landowner that had noticed this bucks predictable pattern because as soon as the deer started working their way towards our property line the neighbor drove over, jumped out of his truck, and spooked them back onto his property. He also shot it later that afternoon. It was MASSIVE! I don't know mule deer scores, but I can tell you it was as impressive as when you've seen your first 180" whitetail buck. |

As a lifelong whitetail hunter, the sheer size of the mule deer was striking to me. They’re a handful to get in a truck when they’re on the ground. I’ve never shot a moose or elk, but I remember being dumbfounded the first time I saw a moose. |
