I see people ask for hunting rifle recommendations. I just wanted to post a quick comment about my Tikka. I have a good but basic set up, Tikka T3x Vail 6.5 CM, VX5HD 2-10x42 firedot, Dead Air Nomad Ti. Bone stock rifle. Great ergonomics, smooth action, feeds great and consistently shoots way better than I can. I went to the range yesterday to check 200yrd zero with Hornady 143gr ELD-X. all groups were only 3 shots since I was just working on zero. Cold bore first group at 100 yards was about 0.5". Second shot group at 100 was this.  Went out to 200yards and fired a few groups. The thicker duplex reticle makes very fine aiming a little harder. Worst 200yrd group was sub .75 MOA. Best was this one. Remember this is a 200yrd with factory ammo. This group was the Federal TA to check zero verses the Hornady. But the Hornady shoots just as well. I cant always shoot this well. But I will go out on a limb and say it is REGULARLY well below sub MOA and often close to .5 MOA. These are not the first groups that are just about .25 MOA. I will say that at 200 yards a 1.5" group (.75 MOA) is crappy and when I did something wrong. pretty regularly at 200 yards groups are 1.25" or less if I take my time.  Just cant recommend the Tikka enough. I will just say the rifle is 100% sub MOA out of the box with multiple brands of premium hunting ammo and a 10x hunting scope. I will admit it shoots a little slow. The Hornady is listed at 2700FPS on the box. I have the 24.3" barrel, and I am getting around 2640FPS. Edit, the bottom row on the calipers is metric, look at the top row to see that the group measures about 0.5" at 200yrd. And I know 5 shot group would be more indicative. But regardless, I would say the Tikka "can shoot". Just for reference here are a few other I shot in the past.   |
