Am I the only one that hates copper fouling? It’s easy for bullet makers to control, but only Speer with their Gold Dot rifle bullets does anything about it and they don’t advertise it. The HBN (Hexagonal Boron Nitride) coating Speer uses on their Gold Dots doesn’t totally eliminate copper fouling, but it drastically reduces it to the point of being nearly non-existent in many barrels. Add Speer Gold Dot bullets to a load using a powder like Vihtavuori N555 which contains a de-coppering additive, and copper fouling problems become basically a non-issue. Other “free goodies” that come with HBN coated bullets are: Reduced friction Reduced barrel wear Cold bore shots not deviating from the remainder of the group Reduced chamber pressure and Reduced cold welding of bullets to case necks in storage. I’ve written to Federal and Nosler asking them to add HBN coating to their bullets. I’ve also written Speer asking them to add more calibers and more bullet weights to the calibers they already have in the Gold Dot product line. But I don’t think one little old lady on Social Security complaining about copper fouling in her deer rifle is going to make a dent with the big bullet companies. |
