| Looking to place a AG Composite Stock on my Bergara Ridge SB in .308. Those with experience with these stocks would you recommend the privateer or sportsmen stock? |

I have a carbon fiber privateer on a long action R700. It was between that one and the sportsman. I went with the privateer because it is just slightly shorter and lighter. It's a great stock, I can't say anything bad about it. Feels very solid. That said, I recently picked up a Peak44 carbon fiber stock for a short action R700. Now I wish my AG stock was also a Peak44. Extremely nice and extremely light. |

Old thread, but my .308 has a Peak 44 Blacktooth on it. My .300WM and .223 both have AG CAT's. If I had it to do over again, all three would have a Peak 44. It's lighter, I think the ergo's are better, price is similarish. The only potential issue with the Peak 44 is the somewhat short LOP, but the .308 is a Wisconsin deer rifle, I'm going to be wearing layers, so it's not an issue to me. That said, AG makes a very high quality stock and has excellent customer service, you won't be disappointed it that's what you choose, I just prefer the Peak 44. AG has more options available if that's important. I do really like the AG Chalk Branch on my 6.5 PRC, but for a sporter stock I'll take the Peak 44 all day long. Edit: I should add that the CAT is pretty much the same as the Sportsman, but with a cheekpiece. I don't have a Privateer, but I almost ordered one for the .308. It's a bit lighter and thinner than the CAT, but the Hawkins Oberndorf bottom metal I wanted to use didn't fit very well on the Privateer; it's just too slim and rounded. The Hawkins fits the Peak 44 like it was made for it |
