| I've been looking at the 300 Blackout for a little while now, and finally jumped on a Savage compact bolt action. From what I've seen on YT and different hunting forums, it seems to be between 110 and 125 for most popular. I'm leaning towards the 110s since my absolute longest shot would be 150 yards, more likely 30-60, and looks like it should pretty much eliminate any holdover. Anybody have real world experience on deer with either one of these rounds from a 16 inch barrel? |

Not the same round but I used a 123gr SST which is the same bullet as the Black tip Sabre round. It was pretty devastating to the deer. It was a 6.5 grendel going about 2200fps out of a 12.5 barrel. If you're using a 16" barrel, I'd probably go with the 110gr for faster speed, but that's just me. Attached File |

That's what I was thinking. 15gr. isn't gonna make alot of difference in penetration, and the 110s are heavier than the bullets I used in my 243, albeit a little slower. Think I'll just go ahead and stock up on the 110s. |

I dropped a decent 9 point this year with Barnes 110gr Tac Tx with my 10.5 shorty @ 100-110 yards. The Deer dropped like a sack of potato's  For a budget copy of the tac tx loading, check out (Sellier & Bellot eXergy .300 AAC Blackout 110 gr Ammo TAC-EX-Blue) I think SGammo has them for 18.95 a box right now. Velocity is a little on the slower side for that loading, but would be a good option for a 16inch barrel and deer for sure

I'm sure that barnes 110gr would be great. Looks like Hornady makes a 110gr CX too. I don't know what other 110gr bullets people are using. Most of the 110gr lead bullets out there are frangible varmint bullets. I don't see any lead 110 gr bullet from Hornady, Sierra, Speer, or Nosler I would use on a deer. If you go to the 125gr, most of them are good deer bullets. Hornady 125gr SST, Sierra 125gr Pro Hunter, Speer Hot Cor 130gr would be the likely the best choices. I'm unsure if the Nosler 125gr Accubond would be a good choice, you might not be running a high enough velocity for that bullet. All of them are going to be able to provide a point and shoot maximum point blank range at least to 150 yard. Even a 150gr at 1900 fps is +1.5" at 100 yards, and - 1.5" at 150 yards. That's just my opinion. Unless you are shooting copper bullets, I would go to 125-130gr for sure, and I don't see why you would avoid 150gr either. |

If I was going to play the light/fast bukket game with the 300 BO I would be looking at the Hornaday 135 gr FTX which is their old 135 gr SDP (single shot pistol) bullet with a plastic tip. While I haven’t killed any deer with the new one I killed around 10 with the old SSP at roughly the same velocities back in Tue day. Inside 200 yards it was devastating. |
| Don’t have any pictures to prove anything. Used 110 hornady black with vmax bullets. Average size doe went in below the shoulder and stopped in the other shoulder. Made 2 huge jumps in the air and landed 15 yards from where she was shot. Distance was 30 yards. Yearling doe at 15 yards, same bullet. Did a rushed shot for the heart ended up with a double lung barely missed the heart area. Ran about 50 yards about 10 feet from my neighbors road to his shop. Exit wound was a nice size and about the size of a silver dollar. Never saw any blood but wasn’t looking for it. Since I had walked over the hill and out of the tree line it ran over, just to see if it was in the open. Wouldn’t have any doubts on using it with good shot placement. |

I pretty much settled on 135 Gr Hornady for the .300, mainly because I scored enough of them to last the rest of my life. It works well on hogs, even at distance. Bullet penetrates, expands and keeps it's jacket. I only have killed four whitetail with that bullet but did work just fine for those too. |
