| In South Carolina, there is a caliber limit on game management land from January 1 (end of deer season) to March 1 (end of small game season). The rules says 22 and smaller rimfire. The 17 WSM and 17 HRM bullet weights seem to be too small for coyote hunting. The 22 WMR with 40 grain bullets is loaded to 1900 fps now. I understand that Aguila is loading the 5mm Remington again but no new guns. Is there any chance for a 22 Winchester Super Magnum or something similiar? |

22mag kicks coyote ass 17HMR works fine if shot placement is good, otherwise they just go off and die somewhere (varmints, so more of a “don’t care”). Favorite nighttime hunting round is the k-hornet, but that’s not on the OP’s radar. |

17hmr with the 20gr gamepoint ammo kills yotes just fine. Not always a DRT/lights out like the centerfire rounds...but I don't recall ever hitting a yote with the HMR and not finding it. They usually twirl around trying to bite whatever is biting them and either fall or run 20 yards and fall. |
