2026 woodchuck thread (Page 1 of 2)

As I have seen no woodchucks yet on the north coast, yet temperatures indicate their awakening is imminent, I thought id start out with my new barn rig. Suppressed RPR with cci subsonic hp, for 50yd and in headshots.

Groundhadjis are my favorite critter to hunt. I haven't seen any yet but I'm pretty sure the males will be out traveling far from their holes looking for love. I haven't got a close shot at one yet with the 350L suppressed with subs but looking forward to it. Mostly I do the normal watching farm fields with shots past 600 yards at one haunt. Been close at that range but my personal best is 318 yards confirmed. |
| I had some time to work with this rifle today. At 50yds with cci sub sonic 40gr hp, I was consistently, as in no misses, hitting head shots on my 1/3rd sized groundhog steel targets. It was airgun quiet. If it kills them consistently, this may well replace my .22 mag for shooting near structures. |

Saw one this week at work, he slid down some snow and back into a hole. Might be a few weeks, April/May are the big months around my farm, then the odd random one from who knows where. |

Attached File Number 3, but first I was able to recover. Lots of field work going on either side of my land and I think they are getting disked out of their open ground locations right now. |

20 - 5.56 is too much at 59yds, what was inside was outside and back down the hole. 21- 156 yds poor hit found blood trail  #22 -really liking suppressed sub sonic at 40yds. Drt on a golf course.

#36 I was watching another spot, when this guy came out on the lawn, about 20yds from my passenger door. No way I could get the rifle out, loaded, and set up. He didn't pay me any attention when I opened the driver's side, loaded my rifle, extended bipod and proned out firing under the truck. I put one through his ear. Cci subsonic hp, suppressed.

I grew up hunting woodchucks. We had horses and those little jerks would dig burrows in the pastures. Very easy for horses to break a leg in the entrance/exit holes. Funny to imagine a time when a 12 year old could freely wander around with a 10/22 and no one would blink an eye..... |
