#22 , 57yds behind my barn. There is a funny story that goes with this one.  I'm crediting this one to my 19month old grandson.  For the last couple months due to my daughter's work schedule, I pick him up from daycare on Tuesdays.  Every evening on the way home, we pass a city park and there are woodchucks within sight of the road.  I taught him that when I point out a woodchuck, he says Boom. This causes my wife a degree of irritation.

At about 7:30pm, he is pointing out to our back yard at the patio door saying Boom Boom Boom.  I look out and sure enough.

We did, years ago.

Young of this year?  Like a young rabbit or squirrel.  Skin them the same way, gut'em, quarter them, put the meat in a bowl of water with some salt in it over night in the fridge.  Roll in flour and fry in the skillet.  Like rabbit or squirrel that isn't old and tough.

This fall even the young ones start to change, let alone the ones that are 2, 3 years old or older.

Gotta skin'em like a deer.  Hang them by their hand feet, belly towards you and start skinning with a good knife and pulling while pulling on the skin.  Get them skinned, pull them off the nails (we had a skinning stick with two nails just the right distance apart.  We'd tie it in a tree at the right height off the ground and just push the back feet onto the nails and let them hang upside down while we skinned them.  After skinning just gut them, quarter them, and soak them like you would other small game (salt/water/big bowl/fridge over night.  Don't try to fry them.  Tough as can be.  Barbecue them.  Not on a grill.  On the stove top in a pot of your favorite bbq sauce (might take a couple bottles or you might have to add water during the 4 to 6 hours you cook it on the stove top.  Just let it simmer.  You know it's done when the meat starts falling off the bone.  Tender and bbq goodness.  I've fooled people with it before (not on purpose but when someone reaches their fingers into a bowl and starts grabbing meat and eating it and talking about how good it is without asking if they could have some then it's on them, isn't it.)  They think it's rabbit, or duck, or something.  Don's want to believe you when you tell them it's groundhog.

Hey, it's not like they eat dead/rotten stuff.  They eat the same things the cows/deer/rabbits eat.  Vegetation.
How you live your life is important. Just be sure the memory of how you died doesn't overshadow the tales of how you lived your life.

#36. Shot on the mound and rolled into the weeds above cesspool. There's only so much I'll do for a photo.

A city worker braved the shit pile to get photo.

Visiting the in laws in MD a few weeks ago, got this decent sized female at 35 yards with the Sig P322 while walking through the overgrown berries.

Lol… I was just busting your chops.

Like last Saturday at the GNG shoot, when I asked if you were taking them home and putting them in the freezer until your next hunt, then bringing them back to the field for a picture. 😆 😂

I was hoping that you could count,  being that your in school most of the year.

Hopefully, you get the rest of the ones running around the barnyard and off the north side.

#42 big one.

I have to admit that I'm having as much fun with this short range hunting with the .22 mag. It's a different skillset than the longer range hunting I've done in past seasons with .243 at 200yds+. I've learned that if I spook one walking in, sitting very still at 30 to 50yds, they will come back in 20 to 30 minutes.

At 200+, they don't consider you a threat and you have a lot of time to calculate hold overs and pick your shot. Inside 100yds, you have a few seconds until they realize you're still there and the danger is real. Notice he had started to turn his head to run when the bullet hit him. I was holding on his eye when I squeezed the trigger. Shot was 35yds. There was no exit wound from the 30gr vmax and he was drt dead when he hit the ground.

#51, .22mag 93yds the rabbit knew I was there, moved out of the way so I could shoot it, and stood off to the side while I took the pic. Rabbits must hate woodchucks too.

#52 , same .22mag 25yds. He ran, I waited, he foolishly poked his head out under a shrubbery.

#55 and 56 #57 not pictured as he fell in poison ivy, using AP2020's decoy strategy.  I cut the ears off of a rabbit decoy, painted the tail black and stuck it 15ft from the hole.

Introducing Charles DeCoy. Three kills to his credit. He cost $3 at a yard sale. They were so busy watching him, they never noticed me.

If there was 1 redeeming thing about Ohio, it's the groundhog hunting.

Loving the updates, Op. You could video some of your kills. AP2020 on YT has been using his decoys with great results, I believe he's also an OH native.

He's a member here. I fully admit to getting the idea from him. It really does work particularly under 100yds. They focus on the decoy, not on me.

367yards tonight with the 6 creed.  I saw him somersault/ cartwheel through the air as the shot broke.  He landed on the hole and his tail raised the surrender flag.
Then it sunk slowly down the hole like the Titanic going under and left me with nothing but a bloodstain.
