I'll play 1. M1 Garand Won't scare the sheeple too bad. Can out range Ravenwood's M4s, can punch through everything on their vehicles but the engine block, even if they are wearing armor they are gonna get a whalloping from the impact. 2. No. Groups are too easy to take out and flanking positions let you see an attack forming behind the vehicles. 3. If the shooting starts the drivers of the vehicles go down right after the leader hopefully by utilizing to or more teams of marksmen from the right (as I am looking at it) side of the bridge. Try to take the vehicles, and no one from Ravenwood escapes. 4. IEDs on Ravenwood's escape route, some incendiary. |
Ravenwood guys not so smart. Two times they drove straight into a probable ambush, got out of the vehicles facing an armed group, didn't put out any flanking security, drove between parked cars that could have held IED's or shooters, etc. Jericho-ites may be sheep, but Ravenwood should have known better. The Boy Scouts coulda smoked these guys. Guess Farmer Stanley has begun paying off the IRS debt. Mimi is still the finest piece, um, actress, on the show. Go Stanley! |

Food stocks from China. How about a community soup kitchen? If your hungry ,pick up some trash or cut some wood for the community. Better than trying to divide it out in small parcells. Deputies need clear leadership. The Sherifas office is one of Americas oldest traditions. How the coomunity decides on how physical force is used and by whom is a very important issue. Leadership is vital to stopping anarchy and some form of social order. There has been a recent thread dealing with these issues, that was good. Also IMHO i do not buy the EMP threat. Tech background and I have sevriced gen sets in the past. I would have taken a Fal and web gear to the bridge. Tactics would be left up to the NEW Sheriff. If I agreed I would help.If nor simply go home. |

The town needs serious leadership. Baldie isn't the answer, but the Mayor isn't stepping up either. They need to come up with a money system. They need to get folks working, paying, buying and paying taxes. The town can pay folks to do guard duty. The farmers need hands in the fields. This is employment = paycheck. You can then buy food and supplies with said paycheck. The town taxes to pay for the security services, maybe the clinic. |

Fighters appeared to be A version of the Mig19 that Had small swing stile wing tips similar to our swing wings only very short(about the last 3 ft of the wing). Russia had a fight setup like this but I have no idea whether china copied it. Next week looks interesting, semi health survivors. Could some of them be part of Hawking team? Italy loaned an Awacs plane for patrols off VA after 9-11. Ahh those were fun times to be a ERT, learning our NBC's. |
You are right, but it's not gonna happen because 1) It's a TV show and 2) it is obvious the people are doing what most people do in such disasters: wait for help to show up. Eventually it will, and someone else can take charge like before. Someone many pages ago figured that based on the cities known to be attacked, 10-12 million were dead, assuming 100% casualties. That still leaves more than 280 million Americans alive and mostly well, spread all across the undamaged areas of the country. Lots of stuff would still work and some, perhaps significant, amount of production and distribution of food and supplies could be expected, even with EMP effects. There was enough of a functional government to sign a contract with Ravenwood, right? Also, there is no indication that any other part of the world is affected, other than the targets of the US ICBM's. The town could reasonably expect that eventually some kind of assitance and government order will arrive. Now, to the Chinese: Even assuming bad intentions on their part, what is the smartest way to take over a damaged US? Move in a fighting force and shed blood, or "help in any way possible?". By coming alongside the US Gov and military, they have no military risk, but can gain tremendous power and influence. The ramifications of this go far beyond what I can post here, but you get the point. Whether for future good or bad, the Chinese are helping, not invading. Mitchell killed Gracie. He is setting up Jonah for a fall, he knows the town hates him and has reason to distrust him. It is his power play. It will fail. Jonah will be redeemed in some later episode. Okay, I can buy the "MiG-19's" line since the CGI of the fighters showed a Delta-wing profile and the U.S. doesn't have any planes with that design so the audience wouldn't know the difference. But c'mon...the CGI of the bombers were C-130's!!! WTF! Of course the average sheeple in the audience wouldn't know what an "Antonov" bomber is supposed to look like...but whoever is producing this show has got to be some of the most clueless people in Hollywood. It doesn't take a genius. If your story calls for some Chinese Antonov bombers to air drop supplies then tell your effects department to search the web and find out what one looks like. Don't just do a quick CGI of a couple of C-130's and hope the audience is too stupid to know the difference. BTW, China has no Antonov bombers. According to www.nti.org/db/China/wairdat.htm and en.wikipedia.org/wiki/People%27s_Liberation_Army_Air_Force#Bombers the Chinese Air Force's large bombers are Soviet Tupolev Tu-16's manufactured in China and designated "H-6". That looks like a TU-16 about to go swimming. Actually, that pic looks like a composite, and not a good one. The lighting angles on the bomber and ship are opposite, the relative scale looks wrong and give the lighting angle on the bober and the low altitude, the plane should casting a shadow on the ship. Anyway, it's a TV show. Given the post-nuclear circumstances and most the inability of most civilians to recognize any aircraft, much less those of a foreign military, it would be reasonble for them to call any large airplane a bomber, especially ones with fighter escort. |

I have no problem with that comment at all. My point was not the actual storyline but the utter carelessness of the producers and their CGI effects team. If you're going to go through the trouble to put digital Chinese bombers in the sky then make it a Chinese bomber...not a C-130. I found that pic when I Googled "Chinese bombers". If I can do it then some hotshot Hollywood computer CGI effects wiz can too. This one ranks right up there with the "gas in a diesel generator" gaffe. |
Not easily. Not to mention there are no large prop bombers except the Bear and Bears don't look nothing like a C-130. AN-12's do. |

I look at this show and think "Are people really going to be this stupid" when SHTF. Then I realize that this is written by PC Kalifornians and I realize yes in certain "Enlightened" blue states they will be this stupid.......and worse. Then I thank God that places like Nevada, AR 15.com and various other states exist with people who believe in the words property rights, Militia, Bill of Rights, AR 15's, etc. |

- The plane scene was just garbage. We hear props (which sound an awful lot like a light civilian aircraft, not a large military one), Hawkins say "Bombers!" What is this, WW2? So then we get a look at the fighters... to me, they looked like Mirages or Viggens, but no way were those Migs. Then the "bombers" come along... C-130s! Yay they are Ameri... wait... did Jake just say they were Russian?? That whole sequence was one giant  WTF!!- Mayor Green is going to have a revolt on his hands if he keeps his "all-talk, no-action" agenda alive. Unless something huge happens, I see the town electing Gray Anderson by a landslide. - I don't fault Jonah for grabbing the generator. In a situation like this, posession is 10/10ths the law. Too bad Farmer John got the short end of it, but times are a changin'. - So guess what everyone, we've got a HUGE generator now, lets waste the fuel and use it to put festive lights up! The town rejoices!  - Aww Gracie died. No one cares. |
| Last week on the bridge they should have set an ambush with 2 components instead of a check point. Block the bridge, engage causing "bad guys" to dismount and advance on foot, then fall back to reinforced fighting positions. As the bad guys advance on the fixed position group 2 emerges from the other side of the bridge and takes out the rear security. Having taken out the rear security component of the bad guy group employ the captured weapons against the survivors of the initial attack. |

A whole lot of drama in this episode, but I see they are building up for the season finale. Did anyone notice right after they cut from the domestic-where were you all these Thanksgivings-my job-Hawkins scene, the camera flashes a box of Uncle Sam brand food of somesort. I don't see the big mystery about the Chinese using cold-war era soviet planes. Didn't the soviets give China tons of stuff during the cold war? Help their fellow pinkos out kinda thing? Maybe I am incredibly misinformed. As for the US parachutes and RFID tags...that just opens up a world of possibilities...COG made a deal w/ Chicoms? Rouge faction of lunatic intelligence community conspiracy, in bed w/ the Chinese? UN orginized (on the fly) relief mission? Prepping for a chinese invasion, don't want to destroy the future labor force? Speed |

The main problem I had with the air drop sequence was when someone asked "Are they dropping bombs ?" The answer was "....if they were dropping bombs, why would they put parachutes on them ??" -The writers and/or editors should know that the plane needs time to get away from potential blast damage. Air-dropped nuclear bombs among others (MOABs maybe ?) are equipped with parachutes for this very reason. |

You mean the replay on Innertube? Well each episode only last for 40 or so minutes. Commercial breaks are 30 seconds and not all breaks on the TV version are used on the WEB version. |

I must say that I am quite impressed that the producers are continuing to show the break-down in civilization that has taken place after the attack. People fighting over necessities and hostile groups emerging to steal from the weak isn't very politically correct in this day and age. Like many of you, I see gaps in the plot and in the writing, but all and all I believe that the main themes that they are portraying in this TV program are realistic and hopefully prompt people to rethink or reconsider taking measures to prepare themselves for natural and/or man-made disasters. PS Even though I like to shoot M-1 Carbines, having them as the weapon of choice for the Jericho law enforcement was a pretty sad state of affairs. I guess that with limited budgets, small towns may be faced with such a delimma. However, the government sells military weapons to law enforcement agencies at bargain basement prices, so even the most meager of police or sheriff's department should be able to have an SP-1, an M-16A1 or A2 in their arms locker, instead of having to depending on weapons used in WW II. |

If this show even causes one family to prepare a little for SHTF than it will save lives. I'm glad that the website provides some information in their "Countdown" that could help folks take an interest is making some basic preps. If folks even prepared just a little by having a 72 hour kit that would go a long way toward improving our national ability to deal with SHTF. |
I agree so far I've only seen one "assault rifle" in the hands of a civilian and it was only for a fraction of second. Of course, Hawkins has a whole container of ARs, but he is former CIA so I don't really count that. I did see the criminals in the "compound" carry AKs, but so far no black rifles. There may be someone on the production that feels that assault rifles should be banned or something. I have been to some small towns like Jericho with poor departments and they tend to have ARs. Plus, you'd think the local gunstore would have a few. |
The reality is that many agencies still see equipping their officers with "military weapons" as a bad move. Given that the Jericho Sheriff ( now deceased) was an older guy who looked to be the right age to be a Korea or early VN war vet, he may have had no problem with his guys acquiring M1 carbines ( a rifle he may have had some familiarity with as a younger guy and therefore more open to accepting as a duty weapon ) as Jericho duty rifles in the post-Columbine days. Agencies often do NOT think about worst-case scenarios when they equip their guys. |
Since theres no real chance to have a major infusion of cash from outside being brought in, maybe going with the US cash that was in circulation in the town on the day of the Event is still working for them just a couple of months later. Remember, they have no power, no way to create new currency..if theres a demand or need, then maybe they'll go with it. We've had an alternative currency in use in my town for over ten years and its still not widely used or accepted. |

Off the top of my head---Army air corp of ww2 used b17's, b24's, B29 and other smaller bombers to drop food and supplies to pow's in europe and japan. My grand uncle was helped by one of these drops in europe(Austria). After WW2 most releif drops were preformed by retired bombers when longer legs was needed. Now with the shows setting it is not too far fetched that bombers would be pressed into service to drop supplies to 300 million people with little or no stored food or supplies. How many small towns would be hurting after 3 months of no resupply to the markets? In a shtf releif effort, every flyable aircraft would be pressed into surface just as every available helo was used in new orleans. |
Two of our local small towns received Ar's and a whole bunch of ammo(one town bought 10000 round on orders of their chief). Both town's chiefs had aquired the guns and ammo but lost thier jobs when the mayors found out. One of the towns fired the 5 leos that worked for the town because of the 'arsenal' of machine guns. Some small towns think the leo's should only carry a 38 and have one bullet in the pocket. |

I noticed one guy guarding the food was carrying a Remington rolling block carbine(!). I believe the M-1 carbine would be a great LEO carbine. More powerful than a pistol, more accurate than a shotgun, less of a negative image than an M-16. I wouldn't turn my nose up at one. I am continually surprised at the lack of firearms carried by these people. the farmer who gets slugged in his cornfield near the generator-he doesn't have a pistol of any sort? ETA-the chick leaves the AK, and Jakes carbine didn't have a rear sight. |
I see it starts out with a food drive? so starving people bring out food to give to themselves cool. And WTF are people running around without a sidearm or longarm? Gee I found a genny on my property and I bet the local bad guys saw the food drop also lets just walk around not thinking that they will not come for it tooI think its a little PC for TV. I think they hit the nail on the head with the AK's. These guys don't look like the guys that can afford high-dollar AR15's and AK's have been abundant and cheap for MANY years now. I almost expected to see SKS rifles more than the AK's but glad to see they used the AK. Ammo (until recently) has always been so cheap and AK's have always been half the price of a good AR rifle. thanks, Ron |

BTW, I don't see Jonah's group as survivalists, Only Hawkins asked "Survivalists?" when they were first introduced. They are profitters, or more correctly pirates. It's obvious that Jonah ran a trucking company. These guys are his drivers and workers. They are using their warehouse and vehicles to scrounge or pirate anything they can to stay in the game. They are "surviving" quite well, but they are not survivalists in the ARFCOM sense of the term. |
Thats also easy to forge and tough to verify unless you are talking about a one-source point of sale for the entire town, like a company store arrangement where everyone looking to buy something has to go to that one place to get what they want and can have their page in the ledger checked for their current balance. If you expect the medium of exchange to be used multiple places by everyone, that wont work. |
I use The Ark kits as cores for vehicle kits. The Coast Guard food bars keep well in high temperature environments. I got the kits as gifts though. You could probably do better looking at the contents of the kits and then assembling your own using the ideas you get from them. As for the first aid kit I am curious too. |
