Good Morning Steve. Happy to see you here. Hoping you can help me.
I'm a huge XD fan; own two original XD Service models, an XDs I edc and my problem child an original XD Tactical model in 9mm. Last week during a Steel Challenge match the trigger would not reset, staying to the rear. I could rack the slide and even push the trigger forward but it acted as though it wasn't engaging and would pull very easily without dropping the firing pin. (fortunately I had a Service model with me as backup. Hmm. Perhaps unfortunately as I sure did poorly...)
After the match the RO (who is fairly knowledgeable, he and I have assembled numerous ARs and a couple 1911s from the last pin and screw) was able to remove the slide using a small punch to depress the sear from the cutout in the rear of the slide. He, with my permission pushed out the pins at the rear of the frame expecting to perhaps see why the trigger bar wasn't engaging. Wow. Many parts. Two springs, sear, hammer, levers in a complex relationship. We immediately realized this was over our heads and bagged everything up and I returned home with the proverbial gun in a bag.
My questions are; can I request Springfield Armory look at it in this condition? Will I be told I voided something by stripping it to this level? Should I find a local smith knowledgeable enough to reassemble it if possible? Lastly as Springfield has discontinued the model can they even work on it? This was my least shot XD for years. But this last year I really warmed up to it and would hate to lose it. I am the original owner and it is in original condition except the sights.
Thank you for any help.
