I was planning on starting a thread asking Magpul for more porn, but I decided I would just post what I had. If you have any others please post them. All of these images were shamelessly pilfered from the internets. Feel free to claim your pictures if you see them. I have also included the desktop wallpapers I have thrown together for those who have the fever as badly as I do. FNH, I would think is their primary intellectual competitor(followed by maybe HK). After Magpul coming up with the ratcheting quick change barrel system(especially if the POI shift is sub MOA to MOA), they made FNH's engineers look like inside the box thinkers if nothing else. Just watch the video on youtube vid on SCAR barrel change (don't loose the bit to your barrel change tool). To FNH's credit it is better than changing an AR barrel  . |
Wow that was ugly. Not sure that is exactly a quick change barrel. Yea it is quicker than an AR.

I want an ACR. Plain and simple. I think it's the superior next gen rifle. I want one because it does a few things other rifles don't do and because it is neato. I'm a big fan of Magpul. Their commitment to awesome customer service and innovation is really impressive. That said, seriously guys, how often do you have to change a barrel? Military LMG use aside how often? Saying that a tool-less barrel change is that much of a concrete battlefield advantage is a little nuts. The often quoted reason is field maintenence, which makes sense. On a battlefield full of high explosives and small bits of metal at high speeds, weapons can get damaged. But how many spare parts will someone carry before a spare rifle makes more sense? And, in combat, there tend to be a few spare weapons on the ground. Plus if your weapon gets screwed up that bad you probably did too. And I really don't think a spec-ops team is going to carry spare long and short barrels. Long for DMR work and short barrels for clearing buildings. Those guys already carry so much weight they aren't going to want to add more. For civvy shooters looking to have multiple guns with just a change of a barrel I have an example. A lot of people justify an AR15 by talking about the multiple uppers they will buy. ARfcom, the forefront of civvy AR use shoes that mostly people just buy a bunch of whole new rifles. I'm thinking it will work out that way with the ACR. And, hell yeah, why not buy 4 different rifles! I'm sure DrDrake has big plans for a hot tub in his limo.  I think that, in terms of a new weapons system, the SCAR is the only weapon that can touch the ACR. Both rifles are going to be good with their own specific advantages/disadvantages. I like how overbuilt the SCAR internals are. I love how the ACR seems very ergonomic and has less bullshit. Piston AR uppers will probably be the ACR's main competition. Lots of people have ARs and would rather just upgrade than have a whole new rifle system. Either way, lots of cool stuff on the horizon. Here's hoping the ACR makes serious headway. |
I can't speak for others, but I was speaking to the engineering aspect of the barrel change system. Magpul came up with a tooless design, FN did not. My post was speaking more to Drake's comment about keeping things on the Down Low.
Magpul is the company that the big guys have got to be watching. |

Fair enough solidus. Magpul's engineering is impressive. Can you imagine the red tape, useless institutional inertia and mindless self masturbatory meetings at FN that have been going for YEARS about this rifle. Sorry, on a rant here, had a lot of meetings at my job lately and despise useless meetings. |
I was thinking similar thoughts but about Bushmaster. last year they came out with the "Optic Ready carbine" like it was a new concept. That's like discovering you can light two fires at the same time when the tribe in the next cave is installing central air. |

I haven't been following the Massoud's development closely, but I thought that the charging handle was non-reciprocating. In that video the charging handle seems to reciprocate about halfway. It's definitely moving, it just doesn't appear to be moving as far as I think it would if it were fixed to the bolt carrier. Is this just a prototype? |

I was out in the Bat Cave last night putting some rifles and handguns away after some time on the range with Mrs. Bananas. It wasn't exactly one of those girls-n-guns days, but dang I like shooting with her. I digress. As I was getting ready to push the button to open the secret compartment and access the safe, I heard voices: "We're so lonely. We want M-A-S-A-D-A to join us. M-A-S-A-D-A. ACR. We're so lonely," I ripped through the combination and opened the door to the safe as quickly as I could. There were all my rifles, handguns and shotguns quiverring in their racks. Scary, I tell you, SCARY.
