Just wanted to share an some unplanned maritime testing that one of our agency customers did for us on the TNV/RNVG.
We recently purchased a set of the dual tube RNVG Gen 3's for our Fire Rescue boat's nighttime operations. I recently had a mishap where I lost my footing getting off our Fireboat in the middle of the night after a night call. To catch myself I had to let go of the NVG's. They slid off the boat and into 20' deep and saltwater. Unfortunately, we were unable to reach them and several free dives were unsuccessful. They laid 20' down on the bottom for 11 hours until we could get a diver to retrieve them. We rinsed them off, removed the battery and sent them back to [TNVC] to be checked out. They are rated for 60' for 2 hours so no one was sure how they would handle being underwater that long. [TNVC] called us a few days later and told us the tubes were completely dry inside. The fact that these NVG's can take that kind of abuse speaks volumes about the quality you get at TNVC.
Thank you again for your assistance! "I immediately found that the exterior of the unit was covered with corrosion, which was expected after being in salt water for 11 hours. I was unsure what to expect when removing the eyepieces, but I could see no signs of moisture internally. After removing the tubes and objectives, I started disassembling the rest of the housing, removing the optical pods and cleaning all the salt water corrosion. Once everything was clean the unit was reassembled and in good operating condition with no additional parts needed." It's a great credit to the design and build-quality of these goggles to survive and maintain their integrity with no moisture incursion for eleven hours in one of the worst environments for an electronic device! A pic of the actual the actual unit after retrieval from the bottom of the ocean and feedback from the boat crew! Not many BNVD's out there can profess a testimonial of such a harsh 11 hour bottom ocean excursion without permanent tube damage. Quick update guys from one of the Lt.s from Longboat Fire Rescue! I saw you posted about our resent mishap with our RNVG. I’d like to provide a little more info and a photo. The device was attached to an ops core skull mount and G24. The unit was found by a diver the next morning lying on the bottom oriented just as it is worn. The ops core and G24 showed zero effect from the salt water immersion. It was during the offloading of the gear at the dock when it fell into the 20’ of salt water (battery in/unit off/objective lens caps on). The boat captain was moving to hand the unit to a member standing on the dock when he slipped and smartly dropped the device to prevent personal injury. We couldn’t be more pleased with the customer service TNVC has provided. The RNVG and the two pvs 14s from you all have greatly improved our capabilities on the water during night operations. I’ve been so impressed with the unit, I have placed an order for an RNVG WP of my own with TNVC.

Also an important point, we don't grade our tubes as "B Grade", "P grade/s" this or that nor does the actual tube manufacturer! Each of our tubes from Harris/Elbit or L3 in which we deal direct are the best specs out there we contract for, thus sometimes there is a wait. IF by chance Nightgoggles our sister company sells any lower spec tubes, they will CLEARLY state that without the play on the P grade, B grade or whatever word and inform you the consumer what you are really getting in your system. There IS a reason some ultra low priced dual goggle systems and some PVS-14's you may see out there go for $1999 and these systems have low FOM or something else within the tube specs that are very low. We're not a re-seller and have absolute CONTROL of all our tubes in-house and that is why we proudly offer a LIFE TIME system warranty. This is why we started building all our systems many years ago. When your shopping for your next NVD, be sure to ask where it's made and who controls the QA with your hard earned dollar. Also ask if the system goes down, who repairs it and who might be the 3rd party you have to send your system to?. In this case above with the FD Boat Crew, can you imagine how difficult it would have been "please call our manufacture, they will advise what you need to do". Real life stories! Another reason we build everything in-house in the unlikely event with any of our systems. We do have an under 1% return rate based on thousands of systems proudly built for our valued customers. One other point, we simply don't drop ship our gear from some other NVD manufacturer. Nope we SEE, build and inspect each and every piece of our gear and not just transcribe data sheets to impress. Just a small sample that went out last week.
