Recce 5k: -32.15dB (137.7dB on 14.5" Griffin MK2) Recce 5k AM:-36.4dB (135.5dB on 12.5" MK2) They must have done something besides just changing it to printed geometry given the difference in dB reduction even on a shorter barrel. The AM is advertised as 0.2" longer... but same weight... Just bought an 5k AM... |

Let us know how you like it. I was first going to refresh my Recce 5K to an AM, but I hopped on the DL5AM and HRT5/5KAM train. The backpressure differences between my normal Recce5K and the newest DL and HRT stuff is… substantial. So much so I’m not sure my Recce5K will ever make it out to the range again, lol. Great can, but man these newest ones are amazing. Do you have the std Recce5K to compare it to? |

I was all set on a DL5AM but after seeing a review on the HRT and 5K AM I'm back on the bubble. Thats where I’m trending for sure. The AM cans represent really strong performance increases vs conventional counterparts. There are only a few of the most expensive and kind of elaborate conventional cans that can remotely compete with the performance of well designed printed cans. Also while they are doing it, models like the Surefire Socom SPS have quite a lot of bolt speed playing into excessive recoil in gas operated .308 for example, or excessive FRP in .300blk subsonic for example. Generally the printed cans not only exceed the real world perception of performance but beat the price of those really intricate and complex conventional cans, offering better and more affordable solutions. There are subtle differences between the AM cans in our line that you mentioned. A right handed shooter might prefer a DL5 AM, whereas lefties would want the HRT5/5k or Optimus 6 in a 5.56 application. |

To compare the DL5AM and HRT5AM, as a right-handed shooter, I can barely tell the difference between the 2 from a low back-pressure perspective. They seem near identical - which is very low back-pressure. I think I’ll give the sound reduction to the DL5AM, again, barely. It’s all compromises, in this case very small compromises as both cans are exceptional. While Griffin has a lot of SKUs that can be daunting to navigate, they give us CHOICES, which I love. Many other manus give you 1 224cal choice and 1 30cal choice and that’s it. For years. |
